I myself probably shouldnt be posting opinion on customs. I dislike skirts, I dislike pre 48 cars done as taildraggers. However, regardless of my taste, these cars are iconic, and I believe they should be. But that being said, I like customs smooth and simple, but the term custom dictates that these cars can look like anything, and should. Without some envelope pushing, how would customs exist?

  6. Err, thanks for that.

Less is more, it’s brilliantly simple.

There is a certain elegance to anything Gary Howard builds.

  11. thats funny
I like how this place has so many different views about the same subject of cars
I would be the complete opposite, to me, anything past about 1934 need skirts and be built as a taildragger
well, until about 1955....then its a toss up

Cliff Inman's, Joe Wilhelm-built '57 Chrysler represents a definite shift from the gaudy excesses which were at their peak among Customs of the time.

Speaking Wilhelm, Joe did the bodywork on Andy Anderson's '55 Jag X140, which had road race history,
drag raced, and was a Pebble Beach Concours invitee two consecutive years, in the 1950's!
Motor was Paxton-blown, sun-roof is curved glass.
(Can you imagine anyone chopping a Jag?)
