So, I was on Instagram the other day and a picture appeared of one of the worst customs I have ever seen. It looked like they were just adding scoops, fins, louvers etc just to be doing it.

I think customs should be flowing and elegant, purposeful, well thought out etc.
I am new to the custom world, but to me some of the more famous cars are just .....well, ugly.

Post up a pic or 2 of the ones that bring to mind elegance.

At some custom car shows in the late fifties they awarded points for each modification. The more scoops and useless ornaments the better chance of getting a trophy. This is when you got the real knick knacky customs. Trying anything to win a trophy.

I always thought Buster Litton's 'Panoramic Ford' shoebox struck the right tone. The chop was so seamless it looked like a factory hardtop. The color was great, it had just the right amount of chrome.

Same goes for Royalshifter's 'Royal Victoria' documented well here on the Hamb.

I don't know how elegant it is, but my old Merc was pretty minimalist for a custom.

I still miss that car sometimes...

I've never been a fan of customs. As root said, most look like they were just trying to put more gewgaws on their car than the last new one. Just made them look awful to me.

However, several of these could make me change my tune.

    Specifically:

There is one thing I do not like on a custom, and that would be peaked hoods over head and tail lights. Not wishing to cause a storm, but they remind me of the snood on a turkey.
