Hot Rods Save of the day!!(single seater)

Stock as a rock, I'm being a cheap ass on this build so I am using what I have. I do have a N.O.S. 1940s carb that I will use. The stock carb had all the choke stuff taken off it.

 

I always thought this was a traditional solution. Rolled up chicken wire in the Garrick T.

 

Ha Ha, Now thats a way to do it. I will have to keep that in mind.

 

I'm gonna use a giant cotter pin to hold the chicken wire in mine.

 

Cotter pin???? I think bailing wire or a bent wire coat hanger are more traditional! Especially with all that ford content.

 

A big cotter pin like the one that hangs out of a flathead oil pan's bellhousing area. Very Ford-ish.

 

I made this little baffle, but to be honest, the chicken wire looks good, too. I might roll some up and do a comparison test. Mine sounds a little like a tractor right now. I did drill some holes in the periphery of that end plate.

 

How is yours doing? Is it a daily driver yet?

 

It's almost baffling all the things going on here......remember install them after July 4......budda bang...boom

 

Mine? It's kind of a driver, but I wouldn't call it daily. We're in the dog days of summer here, rain almost every day. It lives under a blue tarp.

Oh yeah tons of room, the pictures are deceiving.

 

Have the exhaust ruffed out and built a pipe hanger that will secure the end of the tailpipe. I will make a bracket off the shock mount when my shocks show up and I can get the final placement. Still trying to teach myself how to tig weld I need more practice for sure!

...are you gonna rubber mount that exhaust clamp so it has some movement?

 

My thought is- I have some black header wrap that I can wrap around the pipe, slide the clamp over it and just snug a bolt and castle nut/cotter key on it. I think it should allow enough movement

 

Awesome build so far! Between you, @rwrj , and attending the Hot Rod Dirt Drags last summer I'm afraid I'm going to end up with a build of my own before too long if I'm not careful!

 

Thanks Stogy, You have done your part with all your photoshop skills. The other day I was in the shop mulling things over and started thinking I have been messing with this project for a year and four months. I wonder how long it would have taken a racer back in 1950 to get a car like this on the track.
And you are correct it has been a fun little adventure.

 

Have one rear shock mount tacked in, as usual its overkill. I also added a bracket off of the top of the shock mount for my exhaust pipe.

So I had a thought the other day, My head rest is a 46 Chevy pickup headlight pod when I got the bucket it still had the running light attached to the top. I had taken it off and hung it on the wall but I got to thinking what if I turned it around backwards, shortened it, recontoured it to the head rest and use it for a tail light/brake light? I am going to run a single light under the center of the frame right behind the rear spring also. Thoughts?
