I have seen them modified to use a sealed beam bulb off a Snowmobile or Motorcycle, but you loose the cool leaded glass. Mine are a nice shade of purple.
Purple headlights ? And that's a good thing ? Considering that's illegal, an equipment violation ticket would be perfect.
They go purple over time due to the lead content. New lens are available at $200 / pair. Sent from my SM-G935F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I am so undecided on weather or not I should pursue these lights. I can't find any lenses for my 1936 Dodge 1.5 Ton truck headlights, so hmmm... Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm sure Ed is still working on his replicas. They will never go away but will always raise eyebrows and look right at home in the right application. So yes you will have to give it thought as they will have a price much like so much of the hobby does. Thought they looked right at home on the T above.
I agree, they look really different, that is why I like them so much. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Is that truck what you want to run them on? They would be suitable as the truck is quite rounded...different but these were always a choice.
I am building a Hemi powered 1936 Dodge. I have some parts for a 1.5 Ton, and parts for a half ton. I am just trying to keep one more on the road out of spare parts Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That is a cool detail with trucks is even the big ones had cabs and many other smaller truck features.
I am using the big truck frame and cab. Some trimming will be required... I am going to use a half ton bed and grille... The front axle will be a 1940's Ford, with a split wishbone. The rear end will be out of a 1954 Chrysler. Out of my Hemi pile, I am thinking of utilizing a 331 or a 354. The transmission is undecided... I will break ground once I get my new buildings up. The permit process is taking forever... Sigh Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
& E and J's to round out the package......sounds like a very unique build using period parts...perfect.
@edwardlloyd anymore news on reproduction E&J lights? I think they would look really slick on a 34 roadster with a Duvall or Hallock windshield.
I have not unfortunately. Still hoping the guy who used to do them does more. He had fullsize mini, and some cool bullet lights in 2 sizes for the rear.
Has anyone tried the ebay made in Mexico E&J repops ? What headlight bulbs did you use ? How good are the castings ? Worth the trouble ? Thanks !
E&J headlights are one of those early hot rod parts, that you ether like or dislike. Funny story, I had a set about 30 years ago when I bought the contents of a barn and I personally didn't have anything that they would look good on so I sold them at the Charlotte Motor Speedway swap meet, the second I pulled them out of the box and sat them on the table 2 guys picked up one of the headlights and both said they wanted them, how much did I want for them?. I told them you guys decide who is going to buy them and I'll listen to offers, one of them said 50 bucks, the other said 75 they went back and forth several times and I ended up selling them for 225 bucks, I would have sold them for 50, I figured I really didn't have anything in them and they were pretty nice. HRP
biought a pair 1977, $35, years later opened them up, lot of missing parts, made adapter to use hi-lo side of old dual headlite, 'small bulbs' . put in about 1in spacer behind front rim, put on my 34 in 1992, still light good.
Good God man !! Is that really a Boss 429 in a '34 Ford ?? !!! Jimminy Christmas, that's bananas ! ... oh yeah, topic is E & J headlights, too. Whoop dee doo. ..... BOSS 429 !!!!!!
I have a complete collection of nearly every car magazine published since 1949....I believe the Mack roadster would be the ONLY car in all these magazines with those headlights. Certainly not traditional.
I guess that means that the magazines determined tradition. All the Hotrodders that ran them that didn't get ink don't exist and meant nothing...I understand... Credit to Photographer, Owner
...Looks to be one sporting Woodlights just to mix it up a little... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...enized-hotrods.1002926/page-116#post-13212347 https://ahrf.com/ Credit to Photographer, Owner
