Event Coverage Official 2018 MSRA Back To The 50's Thread. St. Paul, MN June 22, 23,24

I ran into HAMBer "car doctor" and his friends. They drove thier hot rods from Pennsylvania to St. Paul, MN. Super nice guys and they are the real deal!!! Hope to see them next year at Back To The 50's!!

This was my favorite Model A at the show. This '30 just has the right look!

 

Please understand my photos only represent a very small fraction of the traditional cars that attended Back To The 50's this year. Consistently year after year the cars that arrive are amazing. This year was no exception as the cars once again were absolutely stunning! It really is amazing to see so many high quality builds in one place at the same time. I cannot emphasize this enough. You really need to make it to this show at some point. You'll be glad you did.

I noticed a lot of high quality HAMB friendly traditional cars this year. There were only a few RR and those numbers are most definitely down, which is a great sign.

I finally got to meet HAMBer TerrytheK in person. He is awesome! Super friendly guy. We sat down in some lawn chairs next to my car and chatted for a while. Wished he could have stayed longer but his ride was leaving. So, next year hopefully we can catch up again. Give me a call, Terry!

Also met HAMBer car doctor. Another outstanding guy. Talk about the real deal! He drove his incredibly nice '32 Ford coupe powered by a flathead with Edmonds heads from Pennsylvania to St. Paul. Blew a head gasket and changed it in the hotel parking lot...broke his distributor and swapped that in the parking lot like it was no body's business.
He was with his friends and all these guys were having the time of their life!! They were blown away with the caliber of Back To The 50's. They want to come back next year and I really hope they do!! I'd like to spend more time with them..they seem like a sh!t load of fun to hang out with!!

 

Hey @Speed~On , you captured a few of my blue 32 sedan....Thanks for sharing all the great images, a few that I did not see, not surprising.

 

I believe John Wells from Torque Fest wants to get in touch with you. I sent him your contact info via Instagram while I was at BTT50s.
I'm guessing he wants your car at his show.

Awesome weekend! We...got an airbrushed "tattoo", bought the matching t-shirt, went to Quesadilla Junction 3 times, rode the cable cars, took a trip up on the space needle, looked at a ton of great cars and walked and walked and walked and walked some more.

 

This was my first trip to this great show. I didn't see any place to pre-register for next year, did I miss it or do they not take preregistration?

 

You should get a registration form in the mail this winter. You're right, a great show and a great time. Glad you enjoyed it.

I walked 10 hours a day for 3 days and still didn't see it all. The fat scooters sure are a pain in the ass though. People need to learn to PUT THE FORK DOWN!!

 

Given the traditionalist roots of the HAMB, how about some traditional (film) photos?

 

This was the best car event I ever been to. I have been to many.

 

My wife is disabled and requires a scooter so she can enjoy the show just like the whiny self righteous. Stick a fork somewhere.

Partsdog, you took my post wrong. I have no problem with people who really need a scooter for a disability or crippling disease. I was complaining about fat lazy people that you always see at car shows or swap meets. That is why I called them FAT scooters. I did not mean to offend anyone who really needs a scooter to get around. Since I obviously offended you please accept my sincere apology. Brian

I'll second that. We went in 2004 after I got back from a deployment to Afghanistan. Honestly I got tired of looking at cars and I know that sounds bad.

I was there in '74, with the NSRA guys from Detroit and
Joe Konkle.

 

Awesome show as always. If you need a handicap scooter fine, they should give driving lessons perhaps. Seen a few mishaps of people treating them like offroad vehicles. Cruised around alot and have to dodge people in general but definitely one of the best shows.

I think I'm going to make a concerted effort to get my old crate back on the road so I can drive into next year's event instead of scuffing up the footwear.

 

Neat shots, thanks for posting. But I have to chuckle at your comment - though I'm not sure of your background or how long you've been shooting photos. Yep, film is definitely traditional. I just know that if it weren't for digital, there would be few if any online galleries with hundreds of photos from one event like this! When we first started hanging around the MSRA, a 35mm 24 exposure roll would have to last the whole weekend! Big events like the Nats or BTT50's might step up to 36-exposures. I did my own B & W processing and printing for years but always paid a lab to do the color stuff so it could get a bit spendy. My old medium-format camera, which I still have, holds just 12-exposures on a roll of film. Maybe I should dust the old camera off and give it a shot (or twelve!) just for fun. Interesting how things do seem to go full circle!
