This one appears to be foil. I thought perhaps it needed replated and was wrapped in foil to show in the mean time?

I guess crunched up foil is better than peeled chrome. Lol

 

I'm not sure it would have been peeling. It couldn't have been very old at the time.
EDIT: The Kustomrama photo of the red '55 was taken in 1960.

I was thinking more along the lines of shaved bumper bolts...

 

Or painted bumpers..........E

 

They are neat. Also very hard to find, took me 3 years to get the full set I have.
