Event Coverage Back to the 50's 2018

Huge show this year, no matter the location. Last I heard we hit 11,707 cars, all 1964 and earlier. While there was a bunch of non-traditional stuff, it was outweighed by tons and tons of cool things. If you haven't ever made it here for this show, it's something you really oughta try sometime.

I've found it takes a combination of patience until people clear out of the frame, and being ready to pull the trigger right away once that happens.

why is the swap meet only on Sunday?

 

My guess is that since the swap meet takes up the entire Midway, space for all the cars would be too impacted. Further, I've seen the swap meet dwindle pretty significantly over the last 5 years.

 

The swap meet was spread out more in the same space this year. I was disappointed for the first time with the selection this year. I have always came away with something cool in the past but not this year.

 

Great show but the layout of the swap meet was terrible. I think it is because the swap meet crew can not get in soon enough because the show cars from the night before leaving late. It was way down ....at least an aisle or two less. For instance one( walking isle) was about 10 feet wide the next 65 feet or so wide some isles just ended at the rear or side of a vendors booth. I been attending swap meets for over 50 years and this one needs a chalked out floor plan before anyone gets in there.
I bought a large item. I had to walk about 1.5 miles each way to go get my dolly from my vehicle.I didn't take it with me in the first place cause of the crowd congestion and galkers that are there just to do something looking straight ahead all the time and walking slower than a snails pace. It would be nice if they had kids you could have haul for you like Iola WI swap does......BUT the show was incredible again this year!

 

It would be nice if the car parts were separated from the old dolls and lamps.
On the plus side, found one item at the second booth. once the dirt was cleaned off it turned out to be in great shape and a fair price.

 

I overheard one of the guys working the swap meet. He was going around telling the vendors if someone needed something big hauled, to send them over to their tent and they would send someone over with a golf cart to haul their stuff to their car.

As a photograph nerd, I've noticed two huge things in respect to digital vs. film: that film seems more akin to how my eyes actually see in terms of detail, highlights, etc., and that the biggest issue I've found shooting film is the condition of the lenses. Often times, the lenses are almost old enough to get into the show themselves - and one of my project later this summer is to do a show using my 1917 Kodak 6x9 folding camera. Why not, right?
