This just came in from SCTA
At 7:30am MT the crew met at the end of the road ready for work. As we drove on the Salt it was quickly agreed by the entire crew that the Salt is the best we've seen in years! It only took a second to see the amazing Salt condition.

Once dragging started it was easy to see that only a light drag was needed. Courses came to life right before our eyes! Course 4 is done! 4 miles!! Course 3 is done. 4+ miles! Dragging continues on Course 2. One more lap & we'll have 8 miles!! All Salt & smooth!

Course 1 is being marked as we speak & dragging will begin tomorrow AM. Also 8+ miles! Yes, we have 4 Courses!!! The Salt is AMAZING to say the least.

We wish to thank Intrepid Mining Co. for their continued pumping efforts. It's making a difference. Don't forget to send a thank you to Mother Nature, she's played a big part in this too.

    Stay tuned, more updates tomorrow!

We looked at going .... but the rooms are all booked. I was really wanting to go this year, probably my only chance to do it and may be the last chance to see Danny Thompson run the Challenger II.

Just one more missed out on bucket list items :(

Take a tent and sleeping bag and be ready to get on the list at a motel of choice for a cancellation release of rooms.
I keep getting notices from Bookings.com that they have a few rooms available for certain dates. Very few, it shows three rooms for 251 a night at one place for the 14th.

Just asking because I honestly don't know and am curious...do they allow camping overnight on the salt?

And I'm guessing all the campsites will be full already too.

You can't camp right on the salt. But you can camp right next to the salt. Plenty of room for all. Alongside the access road many set up camp sites. I don't believe there is any charge to camp there. Porta potties are set around and you can shower at the truck stop near by. So I'm told. I'll take Mo6 any day

Don't miss it for the sake of a 40 minute drive. The year we went (2008) we stayed at a motel on the lakes side of Salt Lake City. An easy 40 minute drive to the salt flats.

Questions always come up about camping, spectators, etc.. Go to the source, SCTA.

Those that have been there before provide great information. Be sure to read "BLM Speed Week Stipulations", that's not from SCTA, that's from the Fed's. It's about the racing......it's not about other nonsense. Mind your P's and Q's, don't screw it up for others, and you'll have a great time.

SpeedWeek is August 11 through 17. I don't know if they can support live streaming out there.

One rain storm in the mountains can cover the salt with several inches of water.

  25. The pictures look great. Fingers crossed that weather is good for Speed Week.

I really dislike negativity. I first went to Bonneville in 66. Been to plenty of them since then. Been rained out 5 or 6 times. This is not going to be the next.

  27. To you who are serious: you book rooms a year in advance. The camping used to be at the corner where the access road turns to go east to the salt. This is off the interstate. There are no creature comforts. If you aren't able to handle extremes outdoors, you might want to reconsider going.

  28. Anybody know if the museum site at the edge of town is still available for camping?
