I heard someone else say something similar to that.. not sure what they were referring to.. the event guidelines are the same as before I believe, as far as the race is concerned. I’m not sure how much input they have on the free car show that is held next to it on the beach. Granted there were a few non traditional vehicles here and there but for the most part I think it was mostly pre 65. I pretty much think anything that promotes old hot rods and customs and gets people to get involved in it, is a good thing. I enjoyed watching all the future little hotrodders running around looking and pointing at cars, as well as seeing some real nice cars and bikes you just don’t see everyday. As far as the race is concerned.. nothing like seeing old Harleys and pre 34 cars running on the beach. I know more and more famous people are getting involved but this is still a cool family event that cost less then the day on the pier and the rides.

One of the best events I’ve been to. Just being there and seeing so many hot rods and bikes and Customs.. not just on the beach but all over Wildwood is awesome. This also falls in the same weekend as the American Legion, Beerfest, a girlscout funday( my daughter does this so it’s awesome for her too) and a few other events. Everyone seems to get along and I haven’t heard anyone complaining that was there. Definitely do it if you get the chance!

There was another bike wreck this afternoon. I don't know the extent of the injuries but it looked pretty bad. It happened after the finish line sometime around 2:30 or so. After that they shut the event down.

Was there Friday and Saturday. Neat cars but crowded. Talked to Gene Winfield. He said he chopped 17 cars last year and 11 this year. The man is a true legend at 91 years of age and drove a mean 32 Roadster. Mantuajohn

Not sure if "jumped the shark" is the correct term, but the event has evolved. I've gone as a spectator since it was in Oct and raced a bike there this year. For me it has grown to the point where it is a very different event. I got two passes in four hours prior to the bike going down. They emptied the pits of everyone that was not a racer after that happened and then the rain moved in. On Sunday only drivers/riders were allowed in the pits leaving out everyone who had purchased a pit pass.

Just being in town and seeing everything/everyone is a trip. Gene Winfield noticed what I was riding while waiting in line for a pass and stopped and struck up a conversation which was definitely a highlight of my day. There is definitely camaraderie in the pits (good thing since the sand was 6-8" deep in spots and pushing was required).

I'm glad I finally put something together that I could participate on and I'm not complaining in any way, but you just can't go back to the way it was a few years ago.
