I approve of this. This car has been through many changes but never finished.

The car is going to be repainted in the colors in the above pic. Like mudslinger said, it never could get finished. 53 Buick side trim separates the colors. The paint acquired some damage in years of storage, I figured this was the time to correct some issues and fix it right...again! merc nose.JPG merc rear.JPG

  5. It's really nice to see a Chopped Merc that still has the drip rails on it. What am I missing about the Back window?

the back window is from a 47 chevy car. that was the last major modification done. the skirts are by Jimmy Jones. Gene Winfield supplied the fade away material to eliminate the door dip.

With all kidding aside the 53 Buick sidetrim was reinstalled and a few issues were found and corrected. This chewed up several days. We are trying to get everything right on this. My friend who is prepping the car was a great friend to my Dad so he wants it right also. buick trim.jpg

Thank you. My Dad bought 2 complete sets of buick side trim at a swapmeet in the mid 70's. Both were N.O.S. A rare find back then, but nobody wanted that stuff. It was cut and fitted to the car around 77-78. Then it just lied around with all the other parts and pieces. Fast forward to today, every time it is ready to paint, Cliff finds a spot to "tweek". All the mechanics are done. A fresh 351W, wheel bearings, alignment, 9", wiring and A/C are ready. This is a survivor kustom from the 60's and little remains of its previous form. The only time it went anywhere was the 79 merc/deuce reunion and it was flat towed. Come hell or high water this mother fucker is being DRIVEN coast to coast.

Classic Red Pearl, that is the base color. I checked on it today. She needs some more buffing and the scallops will be taped off tomorrow. The door mechanisms were upgraded to bearclaw. They shut perfectly now. I remember it always taking several attempts to latch. For 35 years this thing was always brown primer, to see it alive now is amazing to me. Dad would love it. I bet Kevin Anderson would approve it for CCR. I really enjoy threads like these.

Nice, youre looking at Kustom Royalty guys. Chuck was the best. He could smoke Barris designing a car. The guy was on at all times. Call him at 3 a.m. he would answer the phone and give you advice on your car like he was waiting on the call.
You could go ten years of not seeing him and he would walk up next to you at a show and ask your opinion on something.
True story, Chuck was in a coma with a breathing hose in his neck. He woke up and couldnt talk, he was writing notes asking about his fucking Merc.
I have had the displeasure of pushing this car around since I was a teen. I lived three blocks from Chuck. He moved out of the state and I did later about 40 miles from him. I pushed that car around there too.
In his failing health days Chuck would go sit in the garage with his car. Not sure if this was the first Chop Merc I saw or his 51.

Mudslinger is correct, he studied cars 24/7. Here he is in what I call "Kustom Meditation". He was always looking, not to be different or better, but to find the climax and achieve ...…"The Look". 1119181352.jpg
