History SUPER STOCK A/FX & Match race photos

I agree Jungle was spectacular. I believe he was killed Sept 9, 1977. SAD! A young John Force filled Jim’s shoes....if that was at all possible. Force is a Showman. Like Jungle but different. Never the less both great nitro Pilots. RIP James Russell “Jungle Jim” Lieberman, No longer with us, always in our thoughts and hearts, but never forgotten. Thanks for the memories.

The rules of NHRA Stock did not prevent women from racing so when Carol Cox showed up at Indy 1961 to race her Pontiac she was so outraged that NHRA denied her entrance, she went to the local press who pressured NHRA to "follow your own rules." Carol went down in history as the first woman ever to win an NHRA event.

 

The first Funny Car I ever saw run. Right there at NY National Speedway, October 1969.

Originally a Z-16 car, 396 engine, only 200 were built.

 

A Z-16 is nothing more than a Chevelle with an L-78 396/375hp motor.....
Sure would be nice just to have the motor....

 

Kind of like an L-88 Corvette or a ZL-1 Camaro, yea just like them.

 

A long way from SS or A/FX match racers which is the theme of this thread

One quick Ranchero From Gammz "I’ve done some reading about this little Ranchero. Quite the machine! 427 super high compression. If I’m not mistaken it did 200 mph back in the late 60s!!! Nucking Futz!!!!'
