I am considering purchasing a 36 Coupe that has a crack in roof along the door pillar area. Has anyone seen this before and what cause it. Keep in mind that this is not the area of the original roof seam. Any help would be appreciated.
I have seen owners, (me included) that span a 2x4 2x6 across from door opening to other door opening to lift body off. Depending on how much weight was stripped off the body it could be a load lifting fracture..................................... That's a classic "filler" crack and if it's there hiding any rust instead of properly fixing it it will be even weaker..........................
36 Fords don't have drip rails. It does look like it has a load of mud in it though. Pretty hard to tell what's going on there without digging it out.
What does the jam look like? Below that area and inside if there is no headliner. I had a 66 Mustang coupe years ago, my first car. On the windshield frame the windshield post had a seam to the drip rail. As best as I tried to get all the rust out it just came back bubbling the paint and crack parallel to the length of the windshield which would fall into what Brigrat detailed. That is not an easy fix from my perspective.
You certainly can see cracked paint and body filler. The guesses are endless what is underneath of it.
It find it amazing people are telling you to pass on a car based on that single picture. Yes look it over, but 36 ford coupe projects aren't growing on trees.
