Here is another great picture IMO from the Vintage picture 33040796_10214818679731979_8062029600324059136_n.jpg thread. Big John with his super nice 61. Except for the wheelwells probably one of the nicest early Vettes out there.

Check out the chromed OEM spiral shocks on the wheelie bars.
Those would be an expensive restoration part nowadays.

Anybody know about or heard of this one. "Half Breed" supposedly from CA came back east and raced now in Kingston NY.

it is from here in central Ca. The guy that had it sold a lot off in parts. The last owner Dave pieces it back together and then sold it. There is more to the the story but that's what I know. There are pictures of it in the day in many threads here on the HAMB..

Went to the first Uncle Sam Pie Eating Contest in Byron over the weekend-drag race with pie crust slicks with the track prepped from 60' on out but the launch area thru the 60 with no prep. No burnouts and no dry hops so it was a challenge getting thru the first 60. Had a great time.

John (Bald 1) did a build thread on his blown black 62 Vette and we pitted next to each other at the event-a great guy (and his wife Wendy was very nice as well). He represented our element very well turning the quickest ET of the meet with an 11.68. He could have run the A/G cars and was given the option but stayed back in the pits as he was quite a bit faster than the other competitors. The next best time was in the 12s maybe 12.30ish. After the racing John went back out on a single fun run and showed his fastest run was no fluke and ran another 11.68- we joked it was good enough for bracket racing.

John runs with the Brew City Gassers and they had a number of guys there including a blown big block 64 Vette Coupe. I did not get a picture and all of the pictures I took sucked. I charged the battery but it was not cooperating. I spit on the contacts on the battery and got a few pics before it died.

The red Vette below was 4th fastest (12.55) until he sheered an axle in his final timed run. A 56 Vette with an injected 301 is the ultimate in cool IMO. I asked if he would be back for the Meltdown but not sure he will-would be great if he did as I am pretty sure he would run deep in the 11s. His name is Jim and is a great guy-really cool car.

Before anyone questions the times getting traction was a challenge let's say. There were some really fast cars there but I watched a lot of wheel hop.

I had several runs myself with a bit of wheel hop and my final run I came out at idle. I was running in stock class and got paired with a several cars but had some really close races with a couple of old junior stockers-a 56 wagon owned by Doug (Glass Thames Doug ) and a 301 powered 57 Chevy with a 4.11 rear (Chuck broke in our final run when he broke his center section I believe). Also ran a black 40 Ford. My prior run with Chuck's 57 Chevy was neck and neck and he suggested we switch lanes. I kept looking for him to come up along side me but he broke on that run. Would love to run him again (as well as Doug) at the Meltdown but Chuck says he may step up to a 4.88 which may crush me out of the hole with my 3.70 rear gear. Ran both of those guys side by side to the stripe. I related in the Pie Crust thread but with Doug in my final race when I came out at idle, he got me out of the hole but I chased him down by about half track but missed third and even though I jammed it back in thread pretty quick Doug came around me and got me at the line. I had to wait till I got to the shack when I saw I had lost. Good close racing though and a bunch of fun.

A somewhat comical story I related in the Pie Crust thread was my 62 is my cruiser and I have had an old cassette player in it for years (says Corvette on the radio/player so I thought it was appropriate to put it in the cars when cassettes were still in vogue). During one of the runs something came at me like a shot and I was in the middle of shifting but wondered WTF and when I got on the return road I found it was the cassette tape I had loosely sitting on the player (you know how they sit when they pop out). Gave me a chuckle.

Borrowed a few of these pics off the HAMB of the red 56.

A picture of the 2 black 62s in the pits-you guys can figure out which is which I am sure.
