I would leave it alone, it doesn't need lace to make it look good! Big John Mazmanian didn't do lace and that is good enough for me.

  3. I had a '36 Chevy pick-up blue with white lace in 1970. I don't know who built the truck I bought it in the San Jose area then while I was in the Army. I remember it having big texture so it'll need mucho clear to be smooth. I was more interested it laying black lines on the ground at that time than anything else. Just Do It.

    It does date a car.

Don't do it. There are better places for lace.

    I like 'em in leather,
    I like 'em in lace,
    I like 'em best,
    When they...aren't out of place.

Don't do it, gold leaf name down the side?

I don't really think it matters what you do. I mean there is nothing you could do to that Willys to make it look bad, but that red sure is pretty.

Another vote for gold leaf,on that red it would really pop and also it would be timeless.

If you do a google search, there are maybe 3 or 4 total images of Willys coupes with lace. There are thousands of solid color coupes in just about every color you can think of. Seems like Flames have also been over done
I remember seeing this one here on the HAMB in a build thread

Paint it solid to look like everybody else.................Lace it to look like a Jim Sibley build

Man, I understand where you're comin' from, but I'd have a real hard time possibly cluttering that fine sheen! If anything, maybe your name or car name in classic gold leaf and call it done. Great job on this one Jim!

  25. I posted these on you other thread where it showed pictures of the car not yet in paint. Just to give you a rough idea.

I’m with F&J, the red looks good, but just too plain. Do something that says “you”. Or put gold leaf on it to look like all the others.....

  29. I remember when you first started talking about color, and I voted for red, the Big John one always was my favourite .
If you don't go lace, what's your other ideas?
Gold leaf always looks great with red.

    Love the color.
