Hey guys just bought this model a and I need some help indemnifing this rear end. I was told it was a 56 olds rear but it looks a little different to me. Any help would really be appreciated, thank you
The 49-56 Ford cars had a round center like that, and were quite a bit smaller than an Olds...and it was a reasonable rearend swap back in the 50s and early 60s.
My 32 coupe was an old 50s hot rod when I got it in the 70s and it had what I determined to be a 55-56 Ford rear in it. Since I had one go out behind a stock y-block, I changed it to a Ford 8 inch.
Need a picture of the front where the U joint is, the bolt pattern of the wheels, and a picture of the axle with the hubcap off. Then can make a positive ID.
looks Olds to me as well...there are some casted numbers on the chuck...I might be able to find the book here somewhere, to tell the year. .
Speaking of rear ends, its not fair that "WTF really" has to keep showing his avatar. Looks too small for the big Olds rear from '57 era.
My guess is Olds/Pont also (even though I messed up on the last "guess my rear end"); what kind of flange? Does it take U-joints retained by a U-bolt, or by trunnions bolted to the flange? That will tell 56 and earlier, or 57 and later. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
