Since I have a day off from work I thought to finish cowl repair today. Last day of april so let's weld it back together. Almost ran out of welding gas as you can see from pic... Looks like rust repairs are finally done. IMG_20180430_151012831.jpg IMG_20180430_151029774.jpg IMG_20180430_151127952.jpg IMG_20180430_152811.jpg

Must feel good to reach the end of the welding --- at least that which was required to fix rot!

It sure feels good! Last weekend I dug out some interior parts for paint. Old paint came out easily so these all were done quite fast at one weekend. It took a while to choose the color from all the samples but I found the right one.
Shitty thing is that I'm having some health issues at the moment so that slows me down a bit but I try to keep on working. Nothing serious I hope but let's see what the doc says. IMG_20180517_212329.jpg IMG_20180513_134933_009.jpg

Last monday I started to do prep work. Every day after work I went straight to garage and started working until I really had quit because it's nice to sleep few hours before work. Five evenings in a row and several hours later it's ready for first set of primers. There's still some minor sanding to do before primer that can be done in a hour or two. It was midsummer weekend here in Finland and I think most of Finns were having fun but I had different fun at this weekend. Hauled the wagon to our shop for shooting primers because it much nicer to do it in a booth. Now I'll let it dry well few weeks before blocking and final primer. Somehow I can't add original pics from my phone maybe file size is too big or something. Running them through layout app and then add those pics seems to work. Summer was so damn hot in here that I did something else like laying at the beach with my son. Made few trips to here and there but now all summer fun is over. There's been some daily driver shit going on also so it was hard to find any time to start blocking but this week I forced myself to start doing that. Got it almost straight in a first attempt but left front fender and hood needed some more attention. Door jambs and rockers needs to be sanded before rest of the body can be shot with final primer. All the loose parts got final primer today.

Now this project is really running on high gear. Body was blocked, sanded and primered for a last time on saturday. There are now several parts ready for paint, front fenders, doors etc... Dash is also now in primer. I left the car to our shop so I really have to do it almost every day. Funny how motivation goes higher every day because you'll see it all the time while doing daily work. I'm going to change that red color on interior parts to a little lighter red so there's gonna be some extra work. IMG_20181013_122939_540.jpeg IMG_20181017_190349.jpeg

    Thanks!

Dashboard, glovebox door and few other parts are now ready for paint. Last week I also shot some test panels only to make that red paint decision harder. Well not only that because I wanted to look how that orange pearl goes with pearl red. 1540226182574.jpeg

    Nice work!
That red on the dash is the original color, or primer?

Thanks! That was original color or what was left of it after all these years.

After work fun with all these little parts... 1540311247564.jpeg 1540311331100.jpeg

Thanks! Is that black one what was for sale a while ago?

Caught a damn flu earlier this week so I was so exhausted from daily work that I went straight home every day. Friday I felt so much better that I fitted tailgate back in the car to find out how it fits after all that welding. Yeah I know that should've been done before prep work but looks like I was lucky and it seems to fit quite nicely. Rest of the weekend was full of blocking, sanding, blocking and sanding. My hands are bit sore at the moment... Whole car is now ready for paint! 1541940356754.jpeg

Nope, its wasnt on the public sale. Its been stored in a barn since early 90's and it still has the original red color. Well, i guess its been repainted at some point, but the color is same than it had originally from the factor. And nice progress again!

That flu ended up to a sinusitis as usual in my case so I had to take some pills for that and few days easier with this project. Now that shit is gone so I can go full speed again. Ordered a bunch of new parts including hinge bushes so that I can rebuild door hinges soon. I've been also painting more interior parts but there is still some left. Now I have painted interior parts all over my house. _20181203_195736.jpeg

Last week my parts order finally came so I blasted hinges, replaced bushes, pins and springs with new ones and then primered them. Turned out good as new. Saturday I had some time to paint doors from inside with red where it's required. Threw some lacing also here. Few small parts got some red paint too. DSC_0421.jpeg DSC_0422.jpeg DSC_0425.jpeg

Here is a last update for this year. Yesterday I shot roof with that same red pearl basecoat what's interior is painted and then flaked it. Now it can cure over holidays before sanding and final clear. Loose parts are also painted with white acrylic paint what's going to be base for a white pearl. I thought yesterday that I'll paint rest of the car today. It takes so long that I didn't want to do it after work. So why not to do it on saturday... Mission complete and now it's ready for a custom mixed white pearl. I'm getting quite anxious to finish this paint job. _20190105_181749.jpeg
