Art & Inspiration Unexpected HF gift card- what to buy?

Got a letter in the mail to the effect "here is your class action settlement from Harbor Freight " with a gift card. Huh? Oh yeah, I filled out some form months ago and received an amount based on what I had spent there. False sale advertising, lawyers got half, blah blah.

Bottom line is I've got $160 to spend at HF. What would you buy? I'm thinking another engine stand and..... I've got a pretty extensive set of tools including welder and torch already.

My experience is if it has more than 3 moving parts or if you health may depend on it, dont buy from HF.

I've got one of their belt sanders, it works pretty good. Just don't buy the HF belts/discs for it, those are crap.

 

Apply half of it towards extended warranties!

Well, if I didn't need a 20 Ton Shop Press, I think I would need a CHAINSAW ON A STICK because reasons, as the kids say.

 

I got one of their air nailers and shot over 100 brads out of it with less than 20 lbs of air. Built okay and it works great!

They offer a coupon of a free gift of an 18" magnetic strip with a purchase,so I went in repeatedly (13 times)and bought the 2 craft magnets for .99 for the daughter's craft class and scored a magnetic strip each time.They fit inside my tool drawers holding my sockets and cost me nothing?

If only they sold stuff that can hold up to normal use.
If only they would let you cash it out so you can buy some real tools.

^^^^^ I second that. Get a blast cabinet if you don't have one. You will end up using it all the time.

 

I have several HF tools that treat me well. For $160 I would grab the 5 drawer rolling tool box unless I already had a few. Second choice... the 12" stationary disk sander is a horse.

 

How about one of those portable shed/ shelters and you could donate it to a homeless person who lost his job because it was out sourced to china.

 

While on the subject of hf, they have recalled a bunch of plug in chain saws, as the switch may stick and cause an injury.
Mine is going back tomorrow for a replacement.

My next purchase from HF is going to be the 12,000# badland winch for $299 after coupon. Buddy I help brought one and we load dead tractors on trailers with it all the time and it works great. I was skeptical at first when he got it but it out performs the warn winch he had on his old trailer. so that is my next purchase from them.

 

I'd buy 1,600 thin 4" cut off wheels.

 

& duct tape.

 

I bought my wife the H-F workbench and wooden machinist chest in the pic for her craft room. I wouldn't use the bench for MY work station in the garage, but they work really well for her craft room. The chest is filled up with HER tools and actually comes in very handy for some of my quick little jobs. A lot of other H-F shit in the photo too.

 

I'd try to sell the card.

 

Consumables.. Rollocs, grinding/cut off wheels ect.. but if you had to pay the internet Can be cheaper in some instances.. 25 3” rollocs from ebay 6-8 bucks depending on grit w/shipping, hf 5 3” 5$.. 100 pirahna 4 1/2” cutt off wheels ebay 45$ w/shipping.. hf 10 for 8-10$.. if you’re going to buy from China you might as well get it cheap..

I’d rather pay 3+ times the amount for a used US made tool.. feels better in your hand which can lead to superior work..

 

The Earthquake 'XT' half-inch impact is a pretty bad MoFo for the money, especially when on sale for $129. Take your change in tarps & moving blankets.

 

Can't go wrong with a $160 worth of GoJo or Goop, and some shop towels.

 

The tool that impressed me the most was the spot weld cutter. It has a reverseable cutter wheel. I have cut over 150 spot welds with mine and still haven't used up the first side. All this for about $3.50

 

I been thinking about picking up one of their wireless 4 Camera security system. The only thing stopping is I can't get the $200 bucks out of my pocket.
