They are custom pistons from Race Tec. It is a modern style piston with a full floating pin, and total seal rings. Fingers crossed that I'll send the block for finish machine and fitting by the end of the month.

DSC01412.jpg Read Mr. Eastwoods post on cowl steering design compromises. Learned that when I designed and built my last one, that it turns out I inadvertently did a good thing. By having the pivot point for the split wishbones behind the drag link and having the center of the draglink pivot point at the front hub on the center line of the axle and having the centerline of the rear pivot point for the wishbone close to the centerline of the drag link I avoided a lot of nasty issues (bump steer). I also set the akerman angle. The chassis was rock steady at 80mph and I honestly don't recall any issues with bump steer. But now I know something!...maybe.

  13. Very good sounding, 9:1 should allow for street driving and no exotic fuel. Which head? Eubanks?

This one is going in Pop's truck, so it will get the Rutherford.

The Eubanks head has special pop up pistons, so it will go in the next one. Maybe a shorter stroke and longer rods. We'll see when and if those blocks materialize.

I’m looking for a little direction on where to start.
Engine seemed to run fine before the winter, although it was new to me(drove it around the block a couple times).
Did a bunch of work to the car over the winter and just started it up yesterday after not being started since December.
    White/gray smoke
Head gasket? Cracked block? Stuck valves?
    Where would you start?

What kind of storage over winter? How long did you have it running to warm up?

  26. Take off the cap and sniff the radiator. If it smells like exhaust, you've got combustion blowing into your cooling system. If your still unsure: Leave the cap off and start the engine.. If it starts bubbling over you've got your blown head gasket, or worse a cracked block or head.
Check the compression..(Make sure you have the throttle completely open)..If you have a low cylinder or you have a jumble of readings (over 5" to 10" or more), squirt some oil in the low cylinder(s)...If another comp. test shows the cylinder has come up; it's the rings..If it doesn't, it's the valves. If it is the rings, put some high detergent oil (like "Marvel Mystery" of ATV) in the cylinder and let it sit. Some guys will have other stuff to free up rings.

Stored in a garage with no heat, but had antifreeze in.
Didn’t run too long, 5-10 mins maybe. 3 times now.

I’ll need to pick up a compression gauge on the way home from work.
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll keep you posted.

Monkeys and footballs. Somewhere Heyitsnate posted a great pic of it at speed on the way home from a very early billetproof. Think I have one more of it after I put the second body on.
