Update/Follow up to my quoted post at the bottom from last month..

I saw someone out there today and stopped and talked to the guy that owns this car. It's actually a 48 Mercury with a Ford clip on it. It's been in a barn on this farm for 50+ years and he just recently pulled it out. He told me he would sell it, he didn't put a price on it, but would be fine with an offer to start. I haven't made any offer on it though.

I took some more pictures today

I thought the Merc wheelbase was longer then the Ford and the clips would not interchange? WTF?

  4. Yes the Ford was 2" shorter in the wheelbase.

The Merc wheelbase is 4" longer. The front clip will fit but the wheels sit further forward in the fenders.

Me and my friends would use it as a fort and I would hide in the trunk when we would play paintball. Also we put our fair share of bullet holes in it.

About 2 miles south of Minnesota in NW Iowa yesterday.

  25. The old Ford rotting in the woods is a '46 as indicated by rectangular parking lights above the grille. 47-'48 has round ones beneath the headlights.

Yes, but early 47's also looked like 46's , Henry didn't like to waste anything.
