    Just throwing this out here.
A question that I hear come up often is,
Is a bagged car like this one still considered a mild custom due to all the frame/tank relocation work?

  7. Personally I'm not an Air ride guy, however I don't think that alone makes anything a Custom. It's the visual modification effects that does that. The Blue 57 is a Mild Kustom in my book just by appearance, not because it's sitting on the Slab.

  8. I agree with The Wizzard.
That car is a (mild) custom: nosed, grill, frenched antenna, spots, caps, lakes.....
Not due to the fact that it's lying on the ground.

There are some cars (a few) that NO one would argue aren't mild customs that are basically just lowered and painted. Think Larry Watson here....

Air bags don't do anything for me. That same car at a low static ride height would be way cooler.

  10. I thought being chopped moved a car into "radical" custom....
at least it does at the GNRS.

  11. This has not been a Carved in Stone rule. It just depends on who's bottle of Wine your drinking from.

A "box" definitely "outside the box"!

I'd tag this thing with some magenta scallops, just to set the nail!
(...AND find it in the parking lot! :D)

The suspension has nothing to do with whether or not a car is considered a mild custom or full custom.

Full custom means the car is based on a production body but the roof was chopped and/or the car is channeled over the frame and/or the car was sectioned through the middle. Or the car is based on a scratch built body. In the '40s-60s show car era, these were considered radical body modifications that were usually only done by professional shops or an experienced amateur.

Mild custom means taking a production car and customizing it without one of those major modifications. Shaved door handles, frenched lights, grille swap, etc. Some of these cars had the most radical suspension changes!

The way I read the question is, How mild can a car be considered, with this much suspension work.
    No?

All the work to lower this is with bolt on parts. [IMG]

Yes. That's the way I also understand the question when it gets thrown around.

The bullet 'Bird you posted belongs to close friends from my hometown. One of my favorite cars ever. I added a shot of my 4 sons taking her for a spin about 4 years ago. My oldest (driving) is acting cool, but he was shaking when Roger (the owner) threw him the keys!

    59FORD, I am with you 100%.
This 1940 Ford was a cover car in 1957, and is remembered to this day, not for the bodywork, but for the extreme lowness afforded by channeling....perhaps little more involved than bagging.
At the time, this was, indeed, considered a radical custom!
We take so much for granted these days.
    EDIT: (Photo deleted).

    Don't be shy!
If this were an AMT model kit, I'd have bought it for the decals!

That car IS a radical custom by old standards or new; it's channeled, the hood is sectioned, the fenders are moved up on the body. The only thing that WASN'T done was a chopped top.

True. My bad. Photo deleted.

This is what I was thinking of.
Not channeled, but stepped rear frame (as are many bagged cars). Certainly a LOT of work involved to be considered "mild."
