I had to modify the gas tank to fit around the new crossmember. Hey did I not promise crummy cell phone pictures? Don’t say I didn’t deliver.

 

So I had an issue with the rear diff hitting the stock floor so I started to make a new one, I'm going to hit up @onekoolkat1950 tomorrow to roll some beads in it.




Finished fabbing up the rear shock mounts.



Biggest issue right now is that I need to find one (or better yet two) Rochester 4GC small flange carb bases. Anyone got any? I'll buy whole cores if needed.

 

I've got to be honest, I was hoping you wouldn't chop it because I like the look of a sedan un-chopped, and Im 6' 1", but since it's been done, the car looks killer. Love the motor choice too. Nice work

Going backwards to go forwards.

Since I switched over to the Olds motor the firewall I had already recessed didn't fit anymore, so I cut it back out and started reworking that. And since it would be a lot easier to run lines and paint the chassis I pulled the body off again after installing a new floor to clear the 9'.

 

Recessed the firewall to clear the Olds distributor and valve covers.

 

Set up the ghetto paint booth and shot the frame

 

Started to reassemble the driveline and ran into some issues with the pressure plate and clutch disk. Hopefully I'll get the parts on order to resolve this this week.

Just read your whole thread & I’m really liking your build. Nice work! I love the olds power. Very similar to my ‘32. I’m on the fence about chopping mine, but really leaning towards doing it. Your chop came out great!

....and...knock on wood, never got arrested YET.... oh shit.., I did smoke the tires around the corner for a group of Latino Ladies, one yelled "NOW that's a real car!" and I could not hold back!!! , I was looking for a friends house, then turned the corner and saw where I WAS!!!

@F&J your car is definitely an inspiration. I just got word today that my flywheel and adapters are shipping Monday so hopefully I'll get back on this again by next weekend. I've done a little work lately trying to fix a few things I screwed up but mostly I've been waiting on parts the last couple weeks.

Here's a friendly reminder to reinstall ALL the oil galley plugs in your Oldsmobile 324, otherwise engine no oily. I was getting no oil to the rocker arms on my 324 Oldsmobile and this is the reason why. (gratuitous search engine words for the next poor sap that has the same problem) There's one behind a freeze plug in the back of the motor behind the flywheel and two in the front, the right hand side has a hole for oiling the timing chain.

 

So basically the issue was that if I stacked the vintage adapters the way that I planned to originally it was going to work, but the clutch splines would only engage the disk by 3/8 of an inch or so.... no bueno. Not a problem, 401Ks are for suckers and kids are better off getting their learning done on the street anyways. So I spent some money and got all new stuff from Patrick at Wilcap, that dude is a class act.

Everything bolted up just like he said it would (will miracles never cease?). Here are some pictures for proof.

 

Then some of the guys stopped by and helped me put the body back on the chassis. That was a pretty sweet development because it meant my outdoor patio was no longer going to have a 32 body sitting on it... just waiting there for a strong puff of wind to blow the tree which was directly above it, down, thus crushing my hopes and dreams both figuratively and literally. Anyways it sort of looks like a car again.

 

Just about finished the wiring. I ran the motor the other night and it sounds great! I'm super pumped. Drive shaft got made and installed and now I just have a thousand things left to do before I can take it for a ride.

 

Had to fix a little fuel tank sending unit issue. It was hitting the floor which made it impossible to remove the tank, so I made a little box and access door.
