He told me he also had a '51 merc. out of it also, had it running in an hour but I missed it. I'm happy with the '40. It prob. had a banjo stearing wheel cause someone took it out with stearing box. Hood was left upside down and has a couple rust holes from that. Floors are in good shave as is body. I was going to use parts off it for my '37 (brakes) but it is too nice to strip. Will keep it together and start gathering parts. Wife shaking her head.

40 didn't have a banjo wheel but the 40 wheel is still a popular style.

It's a Deluxe model with a Standard hood. You'll either need to find a Deluxe hood or a Standard grill. Looks like a nice start.

Does it have a drivetrain? It looks low enough in the front to have an engine in it. Or was the '51 Merc you mentioned the engine in this car? It's not exactly clear.

Hell yeah, keep it together. That's way too complete and solid to use for parts! Brake parts for your 37 are plentiful and as close as the next car swap meet.

You can't find a 40' in a barn and just leave it there. It's not how the world works.Congrats on your find.:)

Someone right now is wishing they had that hood, if I were closer I’d buy it just on general
    principles. ;)

  25. Killer.

It’s amazing you could find something like that on Craigslist. All I ever seem to find is overpriced junk.

Thank you American Pickers TV show.

    Good for you...

Yes engine and drive train all there. Engine stuck (2 plugs left out) tranny looks '39. The '51 merc. was a complete 2 dr car. The guy that actually found them said he had it running in less than an hour or so. Sold it right away- 2 k-went to texas.

Nice find. I always have to check when someone says they just got a great deal on Craig's list. Had to read post to check out. I actually had a friend that sent money to one of those deals that was going to be protected thru ebay and ebay was going to ship it to them for free. He knew I sell a lot on ebay so he came to check it out with me AFTER he sent the money.
But with that said I purchased my engine in my 46 Coupe off Craig's list but it was only about 150 miles from me so I called the guy & got his address and told him I would be over in a few hours to pick up & pay. I then googled his name & address pulled up a satellite photo showing his house with the car engine came out of in his driveway. Both of us saw before we paid on a Craig's list deal, You on the Ford, me on my Coupe.
Central Kansas for Location. In September 2013 I pulled trailer up and bought my 46 Chevy Coupe in Quinter Ks. Started snowing just as we turned west at Salina & drove out of snow about 20 minutes before we got to Quinter. Drove & loaded up the Coupe and back into the snow and it snowed to below Wichita.
