Awesome. I intended to paint my 53 Gasser a medium blue metallic and put expanded metal grille inserts. You just confirmed it for me !

Thanks for helping spur me to get mine back on the road. Between issues with upgraded rims and the rear fender clearance and winter, I'm 3 months behind on driving my car regularly.

Yup ! I have three of them. All had varied degrees of rust. But they are so COOL and worth re-doing. Stick with it.

    Hello,
D.B. Thanks for the reminder to add in the last film that I made a while ago with Junior Thompson's black Studebaker racing at Lions in 1959. Somehow it was missing something. When I found the same black Studebaker racing in the fall of 1959 on an old drag racing sounds, LP album, they had to go together somehow. So, here is the result of one of the top B/Gas racers in So Cal during this era of drag racing. Junior Thompson that I filmed at Lions in 1959. Junior Thompson racing sounds from Sept. 1959 in Detroit at the Nationals. The film equals a fabulous run including those bone crunching shifts.

Thanks to the late Junior Thompson for giving us ideas and inspiration on how a gas coupe/sedan should run and sound. Our 671 SBC Willys was an up and coming B/Gas and C/Gas coupe race car in 1960.

Living in South Bend area, Studebaker was part of everyday living. Grandpa worked at the plant and always drove what he built. If you bought and worked for Studebaker, you could follow your car down the line making sure little things like a balanced and blueprinted engine. One of my 1st Studebakers was a 1959 Lark bought for $50. Budget for the day, $1 for gas and $1 for oil. Gasoline was 25.9 and bulk oil was 20 cents/ quart

  18. That 53 glass front end brings up something I need to start searching for.
Several years ago I saw 55 Coupe fiberglass front end.
Does anyone know who to contact or where I should start looking around to buy one for myself?
What I am looking for is any metal or fiberglass copy of a 55 hood and nose, or Packard Hawk hood and nose.
If someone has a real Packard Hawk hood and nose to loan out for a while to have a mold made, I know a fiberglass shop nearby that owes me favors.
I could buy the hood &nose outright, or could have the glass shop make a mold then return the originals if that's what we can work out.
I know that Packard Hawks are hard to find. I am willing to have a copy made.
    thanks!

    WHY BE ORDINARY ?

If you entertain the thought of selling in the near future..... what state?

What a great car. That Packard V8 is a big engine, but is a good one. If you ever have questions about the engine or the car there are folks on the Studebaker Drivers Club forum that can help you out. At least one guy specializes in those Packard engines. Good luck with your rebuild. Keep us informed on your progress

I had a couple over the years. The ’53 had a 327 Chevy, the pickup had a 454 Chevy w/TH400.
I’d get another if the right one came along.

  29. Nice pair there Bob.......what bumper did you use on your pick up if you remember ? That factory bumper always lacked something - maybe a chrome job ? Don't think they ever offered a chrome bumper on those C Cabs.
