Been doing some looking online at pics of different 2 barrel air cleaners so thought i would throw this thread up and see what everyone's got on here. Looking for something a little more unique for my 3 deuce set up that i am putting on my 409. I like the frog mouth and the nicson spark arresters but thought i would see what else there is before i decide what i want to go with. so let's see em!!

I got a set of some spun aluminum covers for my strombergs. The ones off Speedway seem to really strangle the incoming air unless they have louvers

upload_2018-3-14_4-29-53.png for mountain driving at high elevations and the drags at sea level

    Hello,

On our old 1958 Chevy Impala, we ran several different set ups for the 348/280 hp motor. The stock set up was the big black, circular, air cleaner that covered all three 2 barrel carbs. It was the best for daily driving and also for long distance driving. The inner air filter kept everything out of the carbs, but still allowed it to breathe with the two big front inlets.

We also used the chrome caps for each carb with wing nuts. This made the carbs whistle at the drags, but seemed to allow more air into the 3x2 set up. Most stock class racers took that giant black air cleaner off and put these little chrome caps on their set ups. We also saw these chrome caps on gas coupes and roadsters.

One other use for the chrome caps was up in the 8000 ft local, So Cal mountains. It allowed more light air to get in the carbs, even after adjustments were made for smoother running at higher elevations. The newbies up there just did not know why their sea level cars did not run right. Easy pickings for top eliminator.

Filters? None, unless you used the original stock air cleaner. But there were all sorts of stuff in the air on the drag strip. Plus at Lions, every day around 1-2 pm, the West winds from the ocean started blowing across the surface of the strip. It did not help when the winds shifted and picked up dirt from the adjoining farmer’s plowed or unplowed fields.

When we had some extra money, we had the top plate of the huge stock air cleaner chromed, got some chrome valve covers and put on a couple of Moon Breathers. That spiffed up the engine compartment for a while.

Don’t discount out that huge air cleaner. There was a 32 roadster that had a big 348 in it and ran the stock, black air cleaner for all three carbs. It looked neat and on those cruises, did the job. It fit under the top hood with the sides open and no one could see the big air cleaner until the top was taken off. (or you peeked under) Most roadsters will have some sort of chrome individual air cleaner for the carbs. This one 32 did his own thing.

  14. I love those tops, I am using one of those with a different base on a 4 bbl on my current project.

You could make an 8 out of two of those and a multi carb base for trips or 2 fours.

latest shots 022.JPG These were the only ones for A tri-power that I could find at the time that sat lower on the carbs.
I have never seen them since.

Before my engine outgrew the physical constraints of my engine bay I had the idea of building a cowl plenum style air cleaner and use the cowl vent to ram air into it. I even thought it would be cool if the vent door was power activated and opened via a turbo 400 kick-down switch on the gas pedal so it would be wide open at WOT.

    I miss opioids.

  23. Go to the HAMB Classifieds and search for "Grace & Co." in the subject line. Chris ( @graceandco here) makes the best out there, in my opinion. Small batch/high quality operation. Comes in raw, chrome, and black powdercoat with stainless or brass screen! Brass tags also available.

(No, I'm not Chris, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night!) ;)
