Model A street cruiser/drag racer 2018 version (Extended cab)

    Hello,

My brother’s first choice of building something (Model A) stemmed from the fact that his friend had a black 34 Ford 5 window that was running in the A/Gas class with a big Olds motor. They were fairly successful in that class against the early gas class competitors. When the big names moved up in class from C/Gas to B/Gas, then up to A/Gas, the writing was on the wall.

Backyard garage mechanics and builders, as well as daily drivers had a hard time keeping up with those big name manufacturer’s backing for speed parts. It also was that teenagers could not keep up (money-wise) with those older guys that have been at it for quite some time. So, my brother and I drove around our Westside Long Beach neighborhood to look for an old Model A, a coupe or sedan to get something built that was going to be competitive.

We found one similar to the one in the photo and towed it home, just about a mile away. We got it cleaned up, changed the water, oil, plugs, gas, etc. Our mother was aghast at the old, beat up car we brought home. But, we were on our way with our first hot rod build. So, after getting it washed and prepped, my brother even let me drive it around the block. Our own Model A hot rod for the gas coupe class.

To make a short car building story shorter, my brother lost interest in our hop up ideas for the Model A because he saw his dream car, a black 1958 Chevy Impala. (also, later comparing early time slips, that 58 Impala could beat the 34 on any given day. But, they never raced each other...lucky for us, as the 34 got faster)

The Model A was still running around my head while studying in college years later. In 1965, out came the drawing pad. That Model A became a shortened, pickup truck, built for the A/GS class. But, recently, with the 90th anniversary of the Model A and having sat in a lot of different, old Model A coupes, sedans and trucks over the years, I rebuilt that drawing for easy street cruising. So, an extended cab was created along with a slight chopped top. (a smooth side pickup bed was made to keep the burning tire smoke, on take offs, flowing backward)

Junkyard Rods Tow Truck - A hot rod styled tow truck.
Digitally created on my computer. I modeled the truck in 3D using Hexagon & rendered in Poser 11 Pro. Post work in Photoshop CC 2018, Topaz Impression and Filter Forge. The skull and crossed wrenches I created in Art Rage.

Ron, cool drawing but there are sperm shooting out of your tail pipes. If that continues for more than 4 hours you should see a physician...or a mechanic.

  26. Ron, this is very nice! What did you use? Mark
