I worked with a lift like that at a Gulf service station in the mid 60's . There are actually 2 lifts, one for the front of the car and one for the back. They were handy for some jobs that left the middle of the car open for work. The rear part of the one I worked on did not lock in the upright position and would slowly leak down. If you were called away to work the gas pumps, you might forget about the car on the lift, and they often nearly fell off. We did not get to excited, and just added air to the lift and raised it back up when we saw it had sagged. Today I would really get excited if something like that happened.

  9. Yep, finally closed in the mid 70's.
Was at Otis Junction, the split of North / South for the 101 where it veered inland from Lincoln City.
Never really did well, the crappy coast weather was probably the problem.
Our family always ate at the Pixie Kitchen when in the area! I LOVED it as a kid!

You put the car up on a twin post hoist, insert jack stands then lower the rear post. Did it for 20 years or more myself. That way you can lower the rear axle down out of the way if needed. Or lower the axle right out of the car if that's what you want.

Ok what's deal on this one? The Train hasn't even reached the road yet but there is the one car that's totaled. Can anyone enlighten me what really happened?

In '66 I was the last guy to work for the owner of a large shop on Indy's west side that had operated since the late '30s. He had a Weaver "Twin Post " lift like that one . It was so worn out that when a car was lifted to the top the posts would rock side to side about 4 inches . It leaked so bad the pit had oil over a foot deep in the bottom and we kept a bucket on a rope hanging on the wall to dip the oil out and pour it back in the tank ever couple of days .
