    Hello,
I just posted this movie clip of a red 34 Ford altered coupe at Riverside in 1958. (vintage) Sorry I did not film it running, but it was on this trailer in the pits. This car was one of the only coupes running spokes in front. Even his trailer had wires. An oldie but goodie...
    Thanks,
    Jnaki

Cool, Jnaki. Thanks for posting the video. Having the trailer axle centered under the car must have made towing exciting since it would likely have very little (if any) weight on the tongue.

I love those old trailers for sprinters with the ramps curving up over the trailer tires. If I ever need to trailer my modified T I'm building, I'll need to make a trailer like those.

Here is the trailer I built for High Times front engine dragster. Just 2x3 tubing, a pair of old boat trailer fenders torsion axles 1 piece of 4x12 diamond plate decking. Tows like a dream!!

Wow, showing up at Indy with your race car on an open single axle trailer. Guess it's been awhile since that has happened!

001.JPG My trailers over the years starting in the 1950s ,have been close to the same as those low $ homemade jobs around me as I raced a number of def classs. All my own have had only one axle. The very first one I built was made from the front axle of 37 Chrislyr Crown{only found out what in was after buying new bearing for it,an angliron frame with wood bolted in for ramps,it lasted about 3 years. The next one I built from scrap also,by taking a pair of spindels off a wrecked 56 Ford and welding them to a steel "C" beam, the rest of the steel was just what could be found an the ramps were WW2 runway mat{ like many others I saw at the track. I used rebar as support rods. That combo from 1960 worked so well I still have it an use,had to fix some rust a few times but its hauled many many cars, even a G20 chevy van one time/van tranny failed, good thing we didn't have to go to far. I war out 18 stationwagons as tow cars. A lot of trailer lights have come an gone as well. Built a few others for racing buddys too in the style,2 had flip up ramps.
Some of the guys I raced with were doing things in much higher $ ways,in the early 80s. One guy that had the pitstall next to me for a few years would come in a semi tractortrailer an always have something new to show me,as I helped him unload before his crew would get there. Things like new chrome jackstands or chrome airguns etc. After getting to see many of these new cool toys,I told him I had gold plated all the holes in my trailer an have them counted so I'm going to know if he takes any,LOL

Cool trailers George, I don't suppose you still have the drawing that you would be willing to share?
I am trying to decide on how to transport and store my slingshot over here in the UK so no open trailers for me.
Is there anything special about the panelling etc?

This is the sprint car trailer that carried a Championship Fronty, it was made from a car frame upside down.
I might add, these were a bear to load....

An interesting concept for sure. That would definitely lower the CG!

I sure wouldn't want to try to load that trailer in a dirt track pit area after a rain out. I'll bet that could get ugly quick.

Scale these up, they are micro midget and quarter midget trailers.
