Looks like the next one on the line is a Tempest judging by the torque tube.

I like production line pics having spent my entire working life in the motor industry.

Cannon Beach is a dog friendly town, we love it, especially in the Summer when everyone is showing off their pooches.

This is the first early (“rope drive”) Tempest assembly line pic that I’ve seen, and I pay attention to these shots, too! I didn’t think they’d have dropped bodies for the full frame cars on the same line, but when you think about it, the Tempest engine/suspension package was all bolted together. On the Corvair, F-85, Buick Special, they were either separate or joined only by the front driveshaft spline, and required a jig or cradle to keep them in the correct position.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not fluent in Pontiac but seeing that belhousing lacking a "real" transmission got my attention. When I realized what it was, I too thought it odd to be on the same assembly line as the big cars.

^^^ German coach builder 'Spon'? A few were brought back by returning GIs. They were into big fins, and oddball styling.

^^^Well... Maybe not. Correct spelling is 'SpoHn'. 98% of examples found were convertibles.
