Technical Throw out bearing question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bobg1951chevy, Feb 24, 2018.

  1. I have a '51 Chevy, with an open drive line conversion.
    Still a 235 6 cylinder, later model 3 speed stick, with a Ford 9".
Question came up as to which throw out bearing is in the car ..... a long or a short bearing.
What determines which throw out bearing (long or short) will be used ?
    Thanks !

the type of clutch. The diaphragm pressure plate uses the long bearing, the finger pressure plate uses the short one.

Most new clutch sets these days include the appropriate bearing.

  3. Jim, thanks very much.
