Going with aluminum heads, ditching the front bumper, and that big hydro has shed quite a few pounds

If it is the exhaust crossover that causes this I would be shutting that up at the port.
    You wont need that racing.

Does anyone know of a company that's making a scatter shield for a early 59-60 Pontiac block? Everything I'm finding is for 64 and newer. I can't be the only guy to ever put a 4 speed behind an early block and want a scatter shield.

There was a thread last year where someone was looking for a scattershield for a 59 and I don't think anyone came up with an answer for them.

Give the company a call, to confirm, eh? It says it also fits the modern BOP engines, so if your engine is different from the modern BOP engines, it's not likely to work, is it?

And mainly I'm concerned with my safety as well as everyone else's. If something comes apart I don't want it flying around. I don't plan on running fast enough to require this sfi housing but it's safe.

I was running into the same problem with my early Caddy V8......A 1954 331 with an extended bell housing.

Perhaps the solution is to use the trans adapter along with either a BOP or Chevy bolt pattern scatter shield. This is what my plan is. However, in my case I had to get a 1955 - 1962 Caddy V8, to eliminate the earlier Caddy block's extended bell housing. Ended up with a 1962 390 V8.

I read somewhere that QuickTime will make a scattershield for uncommon applications. Or you could borrow a later Pontiac bellhousing and see just how much different they are. If the dowel pins are in the same place relative to the crank centerline you could maybe modify a later model scattershield to fit or make 3/8" thick steel adapter plate.

I read the nhra rules again tonight about scatter shields. I was unaware that they would allow a homemade 1/4" think 360 degree scatter shield. I was looking into making one after finding nothing that would fit my application. Wasn't aware that they'd pass it till tonight. I have just the piece of steel for it in the garage to.

  16. That was my next post, after you came up empty.
Use a SEMA approved flywheel and clutch and a homemade shield.
I know you can handle it, plus it's traditional:D

Picked up the cage kit this morning we'll see if it fits! Have some other stuff to do before we get started on the install.

Yes I'm planning on building a shield out of some 3/8" plate I have. As well as shielding the trans also inside the tunnel.

  23. All good.
You mentioned aluminum heads. Kaufmann? E-head? I think you'll find the headers will need re-working at the ports.
Also, what's your plan for the reverse cooling set up?
Probably going to need std. bore 400 forged TRW, minimum.

Kauffman makes aluminum D-ports. I have a front cover that will work with the new heads.

  25. I know he does. Won't take too much but will still need reshaping, depending on what they look like now, of course.

We made the cut for dragweek again this year. Now we have to keep thrashing on the car!

Made some templates up for the tinwork tonight. Going to cut the bad spots out of the floor this week, and probably start on putting the cage it this weekend.
