Technical Weird Fuse

Putting in a radio and grabbed a used fuse holder out of my stash, opened it up and there was this fuse end thingy I've never seen before. Resistor? Noise suppressor? Secret government wire tap transmitter? If it's the latter and they are listening to my radio they're going to think they're back at Yasgur's farm.

At first glance it appears to be a slo-blo fuse, but it looks more like an inductor so was probably used as a noise filter

 

looks like a short wheel base fuse got converted to long wheel base

 

looks like a choke (inductor), to reduce noise for a sound system.

 

Thanks, I agree, got to be for noise. Weird thing it's stuck to the fuse, never seen fuses like this. I'll try and separate when I get home, maybe it's supposed to be separate.

 

I'd go with it being some sort of radio interference device. Possibly not originally intended for automotive use.

 

It looks to me like it was indeed intended to be placed in an inline fuse holder, just like that.

Is that a spring or a coil on the end of it.

 

A coil looks like. Had a chance to break it off the fuse today, I think it was just corroded on. Appears to be just a wrap of copper wire.

 

I would have had to kept it for a conversation piece to put with my other junk I keep that I may never look at again

 

Looks like someone didn't have the correct size fuse, and made up that other piece to make it fit the fuse holder.

 

Think I'll pop it on someone's workbench that has an electrical part opened up.

It's an inductor.
What it does is resist changes in voltage by an induced magnetic field from the current flowing thru it.Noise suppression is one use for it.
I'd bet money it was a fuse for the car radio.
