Hot Rods It's time to change the look of my 32 again. Looking for opinions

I've got a 32 3 window coupe that I bought as a channeled car in 2001 and ran it that way for a couple years, then built a new chassis for it and put it back on top of the frame in 2003. I then ran it fenderless a few years and then put fenders and hood on it for 6 or 7 years. I then took the fenders back off and have run it fenderless and with no hood since. It's time to change the look again so I'm thinking of putting the hood back on, painting the grill black, taking off the cowl lights and putting on some firestone 7.50.16's on the back and 5.50.16's on the front on wheels painted black. I have either steel wheels that I can run old ford caps or I have a good set of 35 ford 16 inch wires that I can run.
Here's some pictures of what the car looked like over the years.

looks great in all renditions but I really like the pic from 2007 with full fenders and hood.

  3. Great looking car with the fenders & without,I agree with removing the cowl lights and the Firestone's sound good.

My new project might give you a visual idea of what the black wheels & tires would look like. .HRP

The full hood and fenders looks the best.

That’s a timeless look that won’t matter what year it is to look good.

  5. Looked about perfect with the full fenders. Maybe replace the red color with white or beige. Replace the intake with F.I. setup from an early Corvette.
Put a white top insert and running board covers on it. Then..Viola! its 1960 again!

Black 35 ford or Kelsey Hayes wires with black walls, something like Excelsior’s, would look good. I would leave the grill red since your firewall is red.

Adding to my comment on the full hood and fenders, I also agree with losing the red grille and wheels.

That's a nice nook. What size back tires are you running on your coupe?

Looks good in the '07 pic. But, I'd lose the cowl lights & change the grille color. Maybe wheel color as well. What color is the interior? That should point you in the right direction. Or, fenderless. All black. '35 wires. Blackwalls.

    Hey now!

I will say changing the firewall color sure would tone down the "too much red" look.
Not much for wide whites myself but a good looking car nonetheless.

    Hard to beat this version:

Just for the sake of changing it up though.....
You've done steelies & wires, how about Torque Thrusts & blackwalls?
Tame the grill down a little, maybe gray or charcoal. Never was a fan of the high contrast grill treatment, especially on a dark car. On a light colored car it seems to work better sometimes....JMO, you asked. :D
Honestly, that car's always gonna look good, no matter the version!

I'm leaning toward adding the hood and black grill and change the headlights to a smaller set with a 32 bar like the ones on my roadster in this picture. I'll probably put the fenders back on in a year or two. My biggest debate is whether I prefer 35 wires or steel wheels. roadsterfront.JPG

Lose the cowl lights and the bumpers, swap to smaller Dietz or King Bees, paint the grille insert black (maybe silver or charcoal) and put the fenders back on. I kind of like the red firewall as a "gotcha" moment when you pop the hood. I can't get with the red wheels. Black wheels would look sinister. Torque Thrusts would look good, too, but they've been overdone lately. Maybe satin center Salt Flats with polished rims?

  17. Nice car all the way around. Loose the red paint, loose the fenders and change to something interesting for an engine. Like a Ford or a Cadillac or...? with a half dozen carbs on it. Put the full hood back on and use your '35 wire wheels with blackwalls. Neat toy. Widen the rear '35 wires an inch or two and yea, knock those cowl lights off.

I love spending other peoples money. : )

I ordered a pair of 7.50 - 16 firestones today so that will be part of the new look.

2007 version with black grill, black wheels and blackwall tires and 3W Larry will smile down on you.
Change your headlights to a set of J series Guides.

Are we counting wall ornaments Denny ? ;) :D :D I’m in agreement I dislike whitewalls wide or skinny.

How about keeping everything as is except for wheels.and tires. What about Cragar 5 spokes and black wall tires. The stance is perfect now.

Now you’ll have to stay with the high boy look.
(I was going to suggest put the fenders back on)
    My suggestions:
Paint firewall black, and grille different colour, maybe black also.
Black rims ? Solids or wires.

  28. Not a fenders guy ,but must admit it looks best in that 2007 picture. I think if you go fender less you need taller skinny tires and rims. Maybe 7:00X18 rears and 5:50x17 fronts.

One quart of Apple Green paint over all things red and four Blackwall tires and you are updated for less than a grand. Bob [IMG]

  30. If it was mine, I'd put on some satin gray, 5 spoke 'mericans with black walls, put the front nerf bar back on, fenders on, hood on (open sides), and have MONTANA do some striping on it, if it was mine! ;)
