Got the body off so we can move a few bars around and tig the cage.

Nice lift :). Isn’t there a song for that. “That’s how country boys roll”?

Not a lot of pictures past few days, just finish welding things. Changing a few bars around so they’ll be more pictures to come. I’m kind of just teaching myself to tig weld as I go, never done it before this week. Still figuring out what to set the welder and argon at but I’m starting to get the hang of it.

Did you use mild steel or chrome molly for the cage? I keep thinking I should step up to the tig also

This cage is chromoly so tigging is rule mandated in nhra. I can’t weld as good with a mig as a tig and I’ve only been at it a couple days. It’s slower but more controlled than mig.

Got the knee bars from the main hoop to the frame in, got the dash bar moved and welded in, and got the front end braces welded on. My welds are getting better too. F78B4497-C9B3-4D61-B4DE-B0285DF879FF.jpeg Got the crossmember made for dads car. Figured I’d let the cat out of the bag, dads going automatic. He’s still building the car, just decided to run some bracket racing and an auto is cheaper on parts and cheaper overall than a 4 speed.

you need turn the amps dow {you using a foot control?},always weld uphill, keep a clean tungston,& use a big nozzle cup w/a screen inside -keeps argon in a bigger area- lots of practice & you will be there -car looks good

Just put the clutch pedal in so he can run with the Southeast gassers and then slide the glide for bracket racing.
My car will be set up for running both ways. No sense limiting the car while you are building it.
I will have a glide with a brake and a 5000 stall convertor for bracket racing or running with the groups that allow automatics and my stick shift set up. I might get too old to row a 4 speed.

Looks great! What pinion angle is desirable for a ladder bar setup?

Got the ladder bar mount gussets made and welded in, and got the front axle hangers welded in place. Also got the diamond plates cut out and ready to weld on the frame where we notched it.

Got the seat mounting tabs in and got the underside of the frame painted. Once the paint dries it’ll be ready to flip.
