  10. Yea, great contributions lately. So Gary, What did your "hiatus" entail, because it seems to have supercharged your activity here! I am sure I'm not the only one who could use a little pick-me-up. As they say, "I'll have a double of what ever he's having".

  11. Also lots of great "family photo" stuff from @swi66, thank you for your perennial efforts as well!

    Rootie,
Looks like the start of a champ car race at Sacramento, and is that Danny Oakes straightening a frame in last photo? Suspect the Demmler in 1962 after Herk hit the wall. thx

I don't have any details on that shot but you're right that does look like Oakes in the Champion shirt. Thought it was kinda a neat pic with the tower framed between the frame rails.

It does kind of look like Oakes with the Champions shirt. But whoever it is is also wearing a D-C hat which goes with the Denver Chicago Trucking Co Watson roadster. Chuck Arnold wrecked the car on the 2nd Day of Time Trials but the frame got straightened and he ran the next weekend but didn't qualify. This would have been in 1961. With the D-C hat could that be car owner/mechanic Myron Osborn? I guess this one just confuses me but if this is the D-C car this was the 2nd or 3rd Watson roadster and had previously been driven by Ruttman and Ed Elisian. Rathmann won Monza in the car as well. Early Watsons used 1-1/2" diameter main tubes with 3/4" diameter connecting uprights and that looks about right in the photo. Like I said this photo leaves me with a lot of questions.

And thanks, Rootie, for the great photos of MacDonald, Bettenhausen, and Wallard. I'm not sure where the Wallard photo was taken but I had totally forgotten that he ever drove for Dreyer.

Indyrjc, is the D-C car the one that Ruby drove in 1962?

I think that's still another car. Paul Russo drove the D-C car in 1962 and Ruby drove the Thompson Industries car wrenched by Barney Christiansen. In 1961 Bobby Grim had driven the Thompson car. It gets tricky trying to identify who drove what roadster.
