The diff is assembled and brake lines bent up...

 

Floors are a little further along. Making them removable...

Found some Door Jettison handles from a Dehavilland aircraft to use as door handles.

 

Door handles are a nice touch.

 

Can you tell me the part # for the fuel tank ?

 

Progress is slow but each week something gets done. Tube to support Speedway steering column has be mocked up for fit between clutch and header and seat bottom has some filler plates installed...

 

Steering column was fitted and found a steering wheel to use. Sandblasted all the new metal in preparation for Tig welding. Seat frame has lower mounting nuts added. Next will be 1/2" square seat belt mounting nuts and completely fill top area with metal.

 

I purchased a steering column from SPEEDWAY. The item is built well but Speedway elects to grind one side of the Double D on a belt sander while the other is machine cut??? The U-joint flopped 1/8" either way because it was done so poorely and too much material was removed. Was told that this is how they come and they won't exchange it... WTF. Talk about horrible customer service.
I elected to get it tig welded and re shape the end myself...

 

Made a pedestal to mount the LimeWorks column support. Need to re fit firewal and column so I can trim height and weld to dash.

 

im reluctant to buy from speedway.if u have paid by credit card you should be entitled to a refund not fit for purpose.

 

That looks more like an idiot attacked it than it manfuctured like that, maybe someone butchered it then returned it? Did you send a photo of that to Speedway?

 

Today I picked up the firewall. I paid a shop to tig up all the seams so I would have tidy welds to work with.

 

good move looks like a nice job there.

 

What? Is Speedway selling used parts now? Sure looks like crap!

 

This column came in a heat sealed bag. I was told that Speedway modify's them to accept the Double D u joint. Can't figure why this cant be done at the factory since the other side is machined properly. They must have some flunkie in the back removing them from the boxes and grinding them on a belt sander, resealing them and sending off to customers.
I wrote a very negative revue about it on Speedways site and low and behold it was not published...
but someone else did a revue about the same problem they encountered with their column being ground the same way and it is listed.

 

Today I got a perch tacked in place for the Limeworks column support. Also sand blasted the firewall Tig welds to get a better idea how it turned out...

 

very heat job done on the floor mount.

 

Fuel tank supports are drilled and located.
Seat belt mounting points are tack welded ready to be Tig welded.

 

Today 2 pieces were fitted to the trans tunnel...

I liked your fix on this column. I don't understand Speedways poor customer support at times. It seems kind of hit and miss. Some times they will bend over backwards to make you happy and other times not.
Although they have control over comments on their web site.They cannot delete them on the HAMB.

I once complained about an intake manifold they market for flatheads. They had marketed a beautiful manifold but it required custom built flanges for the fuel pump boss and another boss on the front of the intake. It's like they ran out of development budget money and just marketed at as an incomplete unit. When asked about it they just said that's all you get and we have no plans to develop the other parts. In my opinion they are missing out on further sales associated with that part.

They are obviously a successful company though and come through most of the time with decent stuff we can use. End of rant. Please continue with your excellent build thread.

 

Rear 1/3 of the trans hump was finished and capped. Work on the fuel tank strap was started...

 

Interior components are nearing completion. Just a little more tig work and I'll apply body filler to smooth each piece out...

 

Coming out real sano looking.

 

Shifter boot mount was made from a 3 inch dia tube and a grove was machined into it to accept a Tremec rubber boot.
Speedway seats had a plywood base that didnt look finished so I made new ones with an additional rear portion that is kicked up to match the profile in the seat. Next off to get upholstery installed.
