So after the National Roadster show in Pomona, I had to start tearing into my stock A...I pulled all the door parts out, rebuilt the doors locks, ordered parts, tore out all the interior...removed the crappy sheet metal on the roof...[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I want to do a 3” chop...but how do you preserve (or can you) the mount for the front windshield?

Have you checked out any threads on chopped five windows? Have you checked out Flops chops?

set your w/s frame all the way up under your visor with both being level. mark both edges...
where the top edges touch the visor is the absolute maximum you could raise the w/s frame...maybe 2".
subtract the difference between the stock w/s frame hight and your max from 3"...
that sum is to be cut from the stock w/s frame ... 3" chop - 2" lift = 1" to chop the w/s frame...
some of us like to trim the'30-'31 visor so we can tilt it back a little...HIH...

29_Model_A_Ol'_school_008[1].JPG If you look close ,you can see that the bottom of the top door hinge is closer to the top of the windshield swing post ,(. inside of the car),after the 3 in.chop . Sorry ,this all the pic I have of the chop. Hope it helps. 29_Model_A_Ol'_school_008[1].JPG

  25. Paul that is a great body . I chopped my 29 Tudor in October. Show how I did it on my build tread . I don’t know how tall you are but decide on your seats and rough them in . Sit in the car and start putting tape on the windshield from the top until you find a height you are comfortable with . Planning is the hard part , the slicing and dicing is easy . Did mine by my self , easy. Pm me if you have Questions . Have fun , Blue

Thanks for the input. I am flying solo up here in Big Bear...I just tell myself to go for it! You only live here once on this big blue marble, and I don’t wanna miss this adventure! To me it’s a privilege to be able to hotrod out this 30 five window! I am livin’ the dream...

I measured the distance from the floor to the area of the windshield I want to look out at... 5/8 of it.
then put a strip of tape at that height on the garage window... shim seats and bungie in a steering wheel...
let me see how I feel looking out at a level hight...HIH.

Sometimes life gets in the way of fun, but I did get some time today to mark out my cut lines for the chop. I leveled the model a and used an X, Y axis laser level, along with other measuring tools. Next up, welding in the bar stock inside the chassis to keep it all together, then I’m going to clamp the doors shut...car therapy...ahhhhh....[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

DSCN2170.JPG Boy, that's solid as a rock! I always cut the front posts like this just above the swing arm studs . 3" chop,
Use 1" and 3" masking tape to lay it out, then spray with leftover paint. Take the tape off and whizz away. DSCN1448.JPG

    I use a small carpenter's square / level,
cut a scrap of 1/2" square tube the length of the desired chop,
tape it to the vertical edge of the square,
shim to level the body /beltlines on the coupe,
slide the 1/2" tube against the quarter window's rear edge,
when level mark at both ends of the 1/2" tube,
this tells you where the top and bottom will match when the chop amount is removed...
    ... HIH...
