Went and looked (and my friend bought) a 56 Chevy that has been sitting for years. (can be seen in the background). The guy has this Studebaker also.......sitting but not really rotting too bad. V8 car. Damn, I kinda want it bad.

It's actually a '63. The easy way to tell is the roof, glass, and door frames. Still a deserving project, either way! :D

That was what I was told when I went back...........1963. Has a SBC and he wants $3500. I would have made an offer if it had been an Indiana produced car and had original drive train. (I didn't bother to check after saying it didn't have the 289).

My buddy did get the 56 home. Hadn't been on the road since 1987. We put a fuel pump on it and drove it home (not far) with only the left front brake working.

    wvenfield,

Are you aware that at the end of their life Studebaker was putting small blocks in their cars? Was it definitely a transplant or was it a crusty original in the car?

I am NO Studebaker expert. He said it wasn't original but maybe he isn't an expert either. Not to take this off topic but with more info I will go back. (It was really cold and we were mainly trying to get the 56 home)

But, no, I was not aware of that. The car is really solid. I read that they made very few 1963's in Indiana. Yeah?

Studebaker used their own engines through the '64 model year.

'65 and '66 Studebakers used GM engines. :)

    Peanut,

Thanks for the clarification. I thought Studebaker had moved to the GM engines in '63.
