It will probably help with traction a bit just by getting the weight of the tailgate out a foot or so farther behind the axle.

following, working on a 63 falcon hardtop for SEGA here. And the engine location measurement was helpful for me too!

Yeah the percent is found from the wheelbase I’m not sure on a mid or rear engine car

Evidently all great minds think alike. We have already had the weighted tailgate discussion

As to the Tonneau cover and wind resistance. I have a buddy that has a Dodge Ram cummins truck he swears that when he added his tonneau cover his mileage went up to 23 mpg. Well I also have a Ram Cummins truck to be honest I never ever got the mileage that most cummins guys got or claimed they got. I am damn happy with 14 MPG but I added a tonneau anyway. Yea it made a big difference I am now all the way up to about 14.1 MPG . They look good and protect stuff in the back but the wind resistance thing I am pretty sure is a myth.

10 percent of the wheelbase measured from the spark plug closest to the radiator. Its good to see another southeast car coming together welcome to the club!

Set back is measured from the center of the front spindle to the Front spark plug hole. With the modern track prep and the good tires today a 10% set back will make for a wheelie machine.
Back in the day where track prep was hit or miss and the tires were as hard as a minister's dick you needed the set back.

We started on the ladder bars today. I caught a few action shots of him actually working.

You know sidevalve that is an interesting question, but I believe it answers itself when it says NO V8 Corvairs.

The SEG is all about the 60's and gasser's from that era. Thank the lord!! I am sure that the founders would not allow anything that is outside of that box, and I say good for them. But with that said wouldn't it be interesting to see a straight six corvair rear wheel drive. I wonder if that was ever done?

He is lucky to have such a well equipped shop and a willing teacher. Good job both of you.

Are you running coil overs or leaf springs? I so want to do ladder bars on ours.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that the SEG has a rule against "Coil Overs"

I’m running a leaf spring setup pretty much identical to Jeff Jacobson’s Skairlane

You can run a coil spring but no coil overs

Nice job . It will also make a good mounting point for your floor pan.

The teacher is just winging it most of the time. Lucky for us all of you skilled car builders on the H.a.m.b are nice enough to post pictures. We do have access to a nice shop. I work at a small company that builds manufacturing assembly equipment. It is a pretty well equipped shop. I also have a couple local shops I use for laser cutting.

I will admit the ladder bars take a lot longer than I thought. Tapping the tubing for the rod ends wasn’t much fun for Colby. If I had to do more we would fire up the Cnc lathe
