Technical How did they get my email address?

Just got an e-mail today from some outfit calling themselves FIFTYSIXDELUX, custom chrome and ammo. The heading said; We're a member of the Jalopy Journal and we just wanted to introduce ourselves. My question is, how did they get my e-mail address in the first place? I'm just a little annoyed by this intrusion and will be even more annoyed if I find that it was sourced from the HAMB/Jalopy Journal. Did anyone else receive this particular e-mail? I'm hoping that it was gleaned somehow from another source..Just for the record, I'm not accusing anyone of malfeasance, I know that spammers have their ways. Really just wanted to let the powers that be on here know that someone is using the JJ association to spam us.........Thanks, Don.

I didn't click onto their website for fear that it was a scam. Hopefully it's just spam,but it is very annoying.

 

It may have been sourced off the HAMB
As far as it being sold by the HAMB, I would think not likely.

Don’t take much for these scammers to set up an account and start trolling through our personal info for what they need to start spamming.

Or it could be they just know the HAMB has a “ good name “ and hope folks are blinded by that and send them money etc.

Sucks either way. Sure RYAN or one of the other mods will chime in.

Might be a legit business and they are trying to get there name out. But if they don’t have permission from the HAMB they are going about it all wrong.

..................I just removed the reference to "selling" as I know that's not Ryan's style at all. It was more a general reference to it being sold by some vague entity out there.

Quick check of the Alliance Vendor page shows them to be a legit vendor.

.................I've never used my e-mail address in any kind of correspondence on here so if that's how it happened, they hacked the HAMB for my log in info.

 

Not just Alliance, I got one too. I have never posted my email on here that I can remember. So don't know how they got it.

Don - did it only come through as an email? In other words, did it also appear as a PM? Checking my spam to see if they sent one to me.

 

No PM and it didn't show on my PC either, just my phone, that is weird.

Once I saw it on the main board, I should've....... Just happened to sit at the idiot box, and saw it....
