On A Model A motor the #1 and #4 are up at the same time and #2 and #3 are up at the same time so they tend to stop with one set of pistons up so the bendix is at one of two places on the flywheel when you hit the starter. Ford in all their wisdom has a bendix that comes from behind the flywheel so this tries to drive the ring gear forward when it engages. Took a 1/2" drift punch and a hand sledge hammer to the ring gear about every 2" twice and put it back together, no more noise. Both of my bangers have lightened flywheels with V8 clutches so they have had machine work done on them, don't know if this has anything to do with the problem but did find information about it on Model A sites.

I spent my birthday in Vegas. We had a blast, I'm pretty sure. My weekend has more like Betty Ford rehab.

Made a dolly to move a Model A chassis around in the basement, then I put the shell of the Steelback on it, nice to be able to roll it around. Bob DSCF5875.JPG

I started rebuilding my four speed toploader. It was going well until the shift fork set screws stripped.

Body work on a '76 f250. Maybe get some black paint on the hood, fenders and doors. When it is done I can get back on my '59 36 :)

Nothing as exotic as building an engine but I am making brackets for a/c and alternator for my '54 Dodge pickup with a whopping 230 cubic inch flat 6.

    See? Nothing exciting.

  25. Cleaning up a couple castings for my truck, note the logo, only pair in the world.

  26. Screw football , I haven't had time to do anything on the coupe since I brought it home last weekend so tomorrow I will start working on removing the package tray to make enough room for my long legs. HRP

  28. ...i pulled my straight eight and started dismantling it for the great overhaul, it started a knocking sound and it got louder. so let's have a look inside. and had some cold beer and some rockabilly music. no better way to spend the weekend.

The plan is to get the chassis for the '39 pickup inside, but there is a lot of stuff to move around first. Bob
