Hot Rods Custom made rims

Does anybody know of a place that will make custom made rims? Wheel Vintiques and Wheel Smith don't have the offset or size I am looking for. Not sure who else would do something like that. Any help is appreciated

Rims. Needing a 16x5 (1.875 backspace)

 

Wheel vintiques will weld up any offset you need. Had to return a pair of smoothies a couple of years ago to have the offset changed, wasn't expensive- quick turnaround.

 

So, you want the whole wheel, not just the rim?

Just wished they offered a 16x5. I don't think the 16x6 will work for me. I am going to check tho. Thanks!

 

I don't understand why most of us will hand build a chassis for our Cars but are afraid to weld on a steel wheel, not that you are. If you happen to have a 16 X 6 rim why not just take 1" out of it?

What size tire are you planning on running?

 

I have 16x5's now and the tire is tucked in close to the car. I don't have a lot of room so I need to stay with that size. I built the car around that Rocket wheel and tucked them close. If the car leans to one side, I thing the tire will rub

 

Buy a good quality wheel spacer/adapter, put it on to check your clearances, and I bet you can forget it's even there.

You say that you want a 16" x 5" wheel with a 1.875" backsapce.

You say that that wheel keeps the tire tucked into the car.

A wheel with a 1.875" backspace would be pushed out about as far as that wheel could be, and still be welded-up.

Are you sure that you are not confusing backspacing with offset? Offset is measured in relationship to the wheel center line.


A 16" x 5" wheel, with a +1.875" offset would have a 3.875" backspacing.

Which exact 16" x 5" Rocket wheels are on it?

 

Ok, my mistake. I'm looking for a 16x5 with a 1.875 backspace. I'm running the "as cast" wheel. Sorry. This stuff makes my brain hurt.

That will in not pushed IN, as you described. It is pushed OUT.

Unless you have a fender to contend with, you can run any 16" x 5" wheel you want, and put a good quality spacer under it, to push that wheel out to the desired spacing.

 

I cant seem to find a 16x5 in a steel wheel. Could I run a spacer and then run a 16x6???

 

A typical 16" x 6" Wheel Vintiques #12 smoothie wheel has a 4" backspacing.

If you want a 1.875" (or 1-7/8") backspacing, you would need a 2-1/8" spacer.

Unless you are going to hit a fender, you can round-up the spacer thickness, to the next size that is commonly for sale.

 

What is your wheel bolt pattern?

A 6" wheel will move the beads out a 1/2" wider on each side. This will mean that the tire will overhang the wheel lip a little less. So much so that you will likely be able to use a common 2" spacer. The reduction in overhang will make up for the 1/8" difference in backspacing.

I would probably move to a 16" x 6" on that tire, for the overhang reason that I mentioned above. Not only does that make a little more clearance, it will make the tire more stable in corners, and at a lower, more comfortable operating pressure.

 

If you want to have more clearance to the inside, just space out the wheels you have.
