Projects Anyone have a 62 Dodge Dart parts car ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Oct 13, 2017.

  1. Here's a thought. Maybe a '62Plymouth might help. Same body shell and more of them.

The big 1962 Plymouths, which shared the same body as the Dart, were also clumsy-looking, but their boxier shape is easier on the eyes than the 1962 Dodge. The Plymouths sold better than the Dodge Dart, although not well enough to keep Plymouth from slipping from fourth to eighth place in industry sales ranking. 2. So help me out here, because I'm certainly not a mopar expert.
Would the upper wiper cowls be the same?
Windshield and trim the same ?
The fender's shape and hood shape at the cowl are the same?
The door jambs at a pillar to rocker are the same ?

I don't know this body style that well, I'm more of a C-body guy in the 62-65 stuff since that's what I could afford. You should check out the 1962-1965 email list and post a wanted ad there. Gary H is the guy that runs the show, there are a bunch of helpful people out there. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/mlclub.html

45714. Belpre Ohio. Southern Ohio. You should be able to still back off from the link and see where you are at.

If you simply back off the state is upside down. 2 1/2 is to 3 hours from Cleveland.

  6. Floors are already in.
    AMD pans are freaking awesome!
A rust free cowl cut would really save a bunch.

  8. Looks great.
My point was that they are used for both Dodge and Plymouth suggesting a Plymouth B-body cowl should not be overlooked.

I thought you might like to see this in our neck of the woods. A customer's '62 outside the Advance Auto Parts store in Painesville, Ohio 5 years ago. Now I am a parts driver at the Federated Auto Parts store in Painesville, Ohio

  9. Nice!
Like I said I'm not a mopar expert and not sure how they do/did stuff.
I know the pans and B body platform are the same and a lot of other parts are too but I would have never thought the shells would be the same as well. That's something I wish I could have acess to do a side by side. If the shells are the same then everything would swap right over. Take the dart quarters onto a Plymouth shell and bolt everything dodge Dart onto the Plymouth. Is that how it is?

  10. That's #1 on my 11:00 spot tomorrow. Thanks

After all the experience you got fixing stuff under mud on your 'truck into coupe' project, I would think you would've had this all knocked out by now. Just make some hammer forms, beat out the necessary pieces, weld them in and metal finish on both sides. An afternoon's work and time left over to sip some Agave juice!

  13. I've found that mopar guys are a strange breed and all by themselves in many ways.
They don't want something that looks good, they want something that doesn't look fucked with. Even the ribs in the floor pans.

Nobody can see this stuff without a really deep inspection.
    But that's what he wanted.
So I sent this sketch over to my budy with a metal brakes He's like WTF man, you building a space shuttle ?!?

Then this lip is rusted up, and destroyed from removal.
So it needs a new lip, and a material offset where the lower valance goes over it, and all hidden by the rear bumper.
Welded a solid 3" on, rolled the bead off the edge and then cut it off where it's supposed to be.

I know what you mean about a 'strange breed'. I know a guy that bought a real Bad A$$ Challenger. Like $40K less engine and trans. Bought a Hemi from a Canadian guru, another $40 K or so, transmission from somebody else. Had two different Mopar specialists disassemble and then reassemble the car. The second one undid and redid most of the work the work the first shop did, which was not bad or cheap. Things like stainless steel gas tank replaced because the first one didn't look like an original tank but I would consider a piece of metal working art. The second one replicated the original tank in stainless. I don't even know how much that cost.
My guess is, he has north of $150K in it, maybe closer to $200K. WTF

Outer shell is quite a bit different between Dodge and Plymouth that year. Wheel openings are as different as the grill and tail ends!

I repaired a 62 Dart wagon. Customer bought floor panels then backed his trailer into the shop with a 62 Plymouth on it. I cut some of the rockers, lower front fenders and rear wheel openings off of it and made it work. Wasn't easy and no one ever mentioned that something was off about the car. ... Those things are so ugly anything off is an improvement... Lol

DSCF1379.JPG DSCF1377.JPG DSCF1380.JPG I'll be bringing home a 4 door that needs some love. Known things it needs are taillights and seats. They're wild looking and I love them.

I was working on a 64 Impala several years ago that sat under a pine tree and both of the rain gutters in on each side of the trunk were rotted out from wet pine needles. I searched ebay for people who were parting out a 64 and emailed a guy with pictures of what I needed and he cut them out and sold them to me. this was over 10-15 years ago when people still parted out cars on ebay, you don't see near as many nowadays but it is worth a shot.

If you want to come down to Dayton to look over those in that junkyard to see if you can use anything I will give you a tour, there is a 62 Plymouth wagon in there that I did not see when I looked a couple weeks ago.

  25. They are a love it or hate it kind of car. No middle ground.

This guy Loves them and especially loves this car. When I suggested starting with a better specimen I was told that wasn't an option. However a parts car is on the list of stuff to get.
