Awww, man....... that's too bad to hear of Charlies' passing. We all love our dogs, and are feeling for you during this time of your loss of companionship. Dang it all, that's just way too bad. There's nothing more satisfying than to have your buddy in the garage with you while working on your projects.

Happy New Year to you and family.

    Well, it’s Jan, 1, 2018... Mock-up Monday!

I’m tired of grinding and banging, so tinkered with a New valley cover, and started laying out numbers for carb linkage.... here’s a pic for ya[IMG]

  5. Wow! Sorry to hear about Charlie. I have an old Lab... I’m dreading that day myself and love having her just hanging out in the garage when I’m working.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog passing . I have one that is my buddy as well as many others on here also do . Mine is a rescue pit bull , the best pet I have ever owned . Absolute best companion I could have ever ask for . She is nearing 14 years old , has slowed down a bit , but when I think she is almost done she bounces back and acts like a pup again . These buddies grow to be loved ones for us , and a great loss when they pass . Again I’m so sorry , God Speed your buddy to heaven to watch over you .

Thanks Roadsir... yes, tons of work, but hopefully will come out looking a little more sinister than the 4” straight drop it had

Charlie was 10, and got a good bill of health in November during annual checkup... then started gimping around, so back to vet... diagnosed with strained back/hip... so meds, and 2 weeks return visit... this was day after Christmas... he wasn’t improving, and we had him x-rayed... he was eaten up with small tumors everywhere, and his lungs were full of them... lasted another 2 days until 28th...

Like your dog, he was a rescue pup we went to Tennessee to get... best companion I’ve ever had... layed on my legs anytime I sat down, came into bathroom and wanted to lick my legs dry every morning after shower... he will be missed for sure

Love pitties great dogs had to put our 14yr old girl down last summer. It’s always shitty when a part of the family grows old

Got my QC back from Bruce at QuickchangeExchange... looks great! Mocked up side bell, and checked axle fit... axle will need a little trimmed off, but won’t be long to have it assembled and ready to slide under frame...!!

Checking fitment of backing plates, all looks good.

Had an issue with axle fit. As you can see from previous pic, the bearing wouldn’t set flush with support. Figured out splines weren’t cut far enough, so I’ll work on getting that problem solved.

Still waiting on axle shafts to get back... hope they fit this time..

Meanwhile, worked on F1 steering box and got it cleaned up to see how bad wear was... also, got the boxing plate marked, where steering will go thru. Took it to the shop, and bored a hole in plate while Dad made me a sleeve... going to weld sleeve to inner C, and then weld to box plate, to give a super stout mounting area.

Had a pretty good day yesterday, and welded 3/8” to each side of front crossmember, to make it fit well between frame rails

So is that an A crossmember with the 34 rad brackets added?

    Dumprat,

It’s the original model 40 front, that I sectioned and flattened, and trimmed Flathead motor mounts off. I filled in the places where motor mounts were.

Very cool! I am looking at using a stock A crossmember in mine and wondered how it compared.

  23. You have issues with the lower radiator hose if using the stock radiator and location.

  25. Not to hijack the thread-
Usually with an A crossmember, you scoot it forward a bit extending the wheel base forward helps with proportions when it drops the ride height. then run a chopped radiator mounted on top of the crossmember. The radiator is the same location related to the firewall.

I mimicked how the A looks in a Model 40, but both of my A front members look like crap, and needed a ton of work...
I’ve got the stock front 40 flattened, and trimmed up similar to A, and currently have it slid forward an inch...
Since I plan to run full hood and splash aprons, I’m still undecided about the 1” forward move, as it will force me to do a lot of sheetmetal work to make it all look good...
But, I love the look of extended wheelbase

  27. That's why the radiator gets chopped and sets on top of the crossmember.
You're talking about fabricating a new hood and splash apron, not just some sheet metal work if you move the grill forward.

    @31Vicky with a hemi

I studied the radiator and front cross member relationship, and decided I could slide the member forward just a little, and still keep the water in front of the member...

Got cross member clamped up, and threw the front end on to see how far off it all is... a little nip here and a tuck there
