  1. PS. Make sure to run a tonneau cover, or keep the tailgate down, otherwise you'll be dragging a big air brake down track.

That’s what Colby read also. We get the chassis figured out we will set it on the scales. We may have to add quite a bit of weight.

SEGA is real stickers on the rules so keep this in mind

  4. ..or run @ 2325 with a 294" (289 crank). With 500 HP it'll run the same as stated earlier. If you are gonna be fast with a 2.78 low top loader, and a 2.870-3.010 stroke crank, it's gonna need some serious rear ratio, and a little bit of flywheel weight.

Ric raises an excellent point right there:
When I was running the 302 in my car I was leaving at 6200rpm and the 3.70 gear I was using was bogging the motor waaaaaaaaaay down on launch.
You guys will be running a ton more gear than that, but it illustrates the point:
    Small motor=limited torque
    Steep gears+rpm(!)=WIN

This has me excited! I'm 20, but I started my altered wheel base chevy II a year or two ago. It's coming slow, and I'm poor and in college. But guess what? That's how you learn to work with what you got. I reuse and make a lot of stuff I can't afford to be. Enjoy these moments, it's gonna be fun!

  8. I didn't even think about the min. Weight. So, you get a 50lb weight break for the tunnel ram, so I assume if the minimum is 2500, then you get the cubes for 2550, because of the tunnel ram. That makes it 318" engine. 4.060 x 3.075 (you can offset grind the crank to 2.000 journal, while increasing the strike .075. This combo should make 530-540HP with the same ET potential as before. You might think about 2600lbs/331" combo, then you can have a nice interior, and put weight wherever it's needed.

Made some changes to the frame drawing and cut all the metal, going to put it all together this weekend and start on the ladder bars next week once we figure out where the engine will be placed. If anyone has any measurements on the stock position of the engine it would be much appreciated.

    I am going to start with a 5.57 gear and a 30 lb. flywheel . With a 28 inch tire and a 2.78 1st gear.
I am building a 297 inch motor. Probably not enough gear ,but we will find out.
Back in the day when we ran G/Gas with a 302 inch Chevy we ran a 6.50 gear with a 2.88 1st gear Doug Nash and a 31 inch tall tire. Left the line at 7800 and shifted at 8800 We weighed 3420 lbs. The track prep was not as good and we would change flywheel weight to compensate. We carried 3 flywheels with us all the time and the 3 guys could change one in less than an hour.

Make you a bed cover out of alum, have it hinged so 1/2 of it will raise or all of it. Bead rollit or even better punch some louvers in it. Going to be a nice car.

If you look at the pictures that I sent you of my old Falcon on page 1 of your thread the motor was 8 inches back from stock. I hope that helps.

Trimmed some more metal to make space to put the frame under the car,set the engine placement to figure out where the front ladder bar mounts will be and going to put those in this week. I am trying to make the ladder bar crossmember have the driveshaft loop in the middle so that’s why I need to find out the engine placement, it’s sitting about 4 inches higher than it will be permanently mounted.

  18. What is the engine set-back rule in SEGA? I remember that ages ago in NHRA it was 10%.

Yeah 10% is the max setback I’m shooting for around 6%

Trying to reply to your pm and it keeps crashing. It looks to be about 21 7/8” to the front of the block. [IMG]

I’ve had it sitting around for about a year in the pile of other parts collecting dust

I’ve had the whole car for a little over a year and I’ve been slowly collecting all the ford parts I could find

my fully dressed nearly all steel (glass hood) 65 Comet with full interior weighed 2950 with me in it back when I was about 150 pounds. That was with a 289, and a C4. I did nearly NO lightening on the car back then...Getting creative will get you below your minimum easily. Then add your weight in where it will make it hook

Two people can pick the body up as it sits and we still have some metal to take off

I seem to recall that Hot Rod magazine dispelled this myth through wind tunnel testing on a pick up they were running on the salt.

We dropped the gate on ours at the Meltdown and didn’t make any difference in time or MPH. Now we aren’t running fast as the speed of sound either so maybe that makes the difference
