Event Coverage Anyone know this year's AMBR contenders?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Sancho, Jan 20, 2018.

  1. I tried to find them online but no luck...
I did see that there are 16 in the running this year! The most in the show's history.

Not trying to be a smartalec, but I doubt there's a single one out of the whole 16 that's HAMB friendly or within the budget of almost all our members.

They don't keep most of them under wraps like the builders do Ridler cars but in the past many AMBR cars didn't get much publicity until they rolled the out at the show. Probably more to keep the competition guessing than anything.
Hopefully we have seen the end of the show only abortions that can't be driven any distance on the street if they are streetable at all. Car doesn't have to be a cross country reacher but the owner should be able to get in it and drive it for a few hours without having to go on the disabled list because he is so stove up from the driving position or lack of seat comfort.

  8. Re the cars that competed last year can someone explain how the 34 Tourer was eligible to compete.......am not taking anything away from the car, just I always thought the AMBR was for Roadsters or Roadster Pickups.........thanks, andyd.

Some of those are 40 years old. Never figure out why when someone asks about something that guys have to dig up old photos that have no reverence to the actual question.

They are part of the history of the show and of examples to show that they have been allowed for years would be my guess

I sort of agree with what D.O. M. was getting at. Back in the way old days the roadsters were mostly home built, the worksmanship and skill levels were still at a lot higher plane than most guys had, but the cream floated to the top. The trend, for a long time, has been to bring together the best of the best in their fields and get them together with an AMBR goal in mind. THERE HAVE BEEN EXECEPTIONS----But that has been the trend. IMHO also. Bill

A Lot of the hot rods depicted since I put my foot in my mouth earlier have definitely got an appearance within the intent of HAMB.
But most appear to have spent quite a bit of time in a professional shop that is going to charge way more than most of us here on HAMB can pay.

For whatever the technicality of the voting process is worth, they do judge seating position. They want to see the car driven into the judging area and see how well a person fits in the drivers seat.

I so far only know of 3 of the 16. Eddie Dye roadster, Bob Morris Nickel roadster, and a Model A being brought in from Hot Rods and Hobbies.
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

Did it just receive a massive restoration? They’re really throwing away the eligibility requirements these days.

The photos were actually relevant to the question about touring cars being eligible, if not the original question.
