Club had some car on display at a shopping area. One of our club members had a nice T bucket . Someone put their bull dog on the seat and tied the leash to the steering wheel. while they were in one of the shops.

Some friends and I all have T Buckets and like to park together at cruise-ins. One night we all get parked and go waking around. In a few minutes, we walk back to our cars and a small kid's tennis shoe is melted to a header pipe about two inches from the right side head. The best we could figure, is a parent lifted their kid so they could see better and they put their foot down on the pipe and the shoe stuck to the still hot pipe. They took the kid's foot out and the shoe and hit the trail. It was a real mess to clean up.

My Dad taught me to respect other peoples property at an early age. When I was 3, I figured out
I could climb up, and slide down the front finder of his 34 Ford. He saw me doing this, and with
a closed fist the finger side, hit me in the back of the head, sending me flying, like Charle Brown
when he misses the foot ball. He then yelled get off my fender you little shit. To this day I don't
    touch another car without asking.

I read these posts and am amazed at what people do to your rides. Then, I remember, back when I spent a lot of time in the Harley, chopper world, at major races or national events. It never failed that when you left your bike to go do something, when you got back some ass hole was sitting on your (or a friends) bike acting like he was jamming down the road, trying to kick start it, or doing some other foolishness to impress someone, we just flat knocked em out. When they came to, maybe we talked to them, maybe we didn't. Course that has its own repercussions too, but that's anouther story.

OK- here's what you do. Ask the idiot if they would like you to take their picture in you car. When they give you their cell phone, throw it as far and as high as you can, and then tell them WHOOPS. Man those stories piss me off.

I've never had people get in my truck but suicide doors and no door handles pretty much handle that. Worse thing thing with my truck was my own dad who had a habit of standing with his cowboy boot on my running board and I couldn't break him of it. Probably the worse we ever got crosswise in my life was over his doing that.
A buddy had a go around with some fat lady spectator at Arlington Stadium parking lot during a show way back in the 70's. Came back to his car and all 350 lbs of her was sitting on his fender. Told her to get off his fender and she said she paid her money she was going to sit anywhere she damned well pleased. It finally took security to get her off the fender and escort her to the exit.
Another buddy came back to his car and some doof was putting his kids on the fender and letting them slide down it. I hope that guy knows how close he came into getting beat into the ground that day.
It is usually the old farts that are not car guys (over 80) around here that are the problem with older cars, they are the ones who want to open the doors and slam them or open hoods or sit in the car without permission.
Biggest problem I had with my truck from other people was finding stuff in the bed that didn't belong there. pop cups, cans, beer cans and other trash that they were too lazy to carry a few feet to a trash can. At Bonneville in 1998 it seemed to collect pop and beer cans but the old dude who went around looking for aluminum cans was pretty good at cleaning them out every so often.

I always lock my doors and roll up my windows at any event, after seeing people open the door and look inside. I've also experienced having trash thrown in the bed when the cover was off when parked at the Woodward Cruise one year. Some people just don't have respect for other people's property.

I guess I've just been lucky, the woodie seems to appeal to everyone but I've never caught anyone abusing the privilege. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened I've just never caught anyone. On the good side I've had countless people ask nicely if they could look at, photograph, etc the car. I've asked kids if they want to sit in it and they've rewarded me by being polite and respectful.
Now that I've said all of that the next time I drive it somewhere I'll find someone using the roof for a trampoline.

I've heard about stuff like that from friends - sure pisses them off. But ya know, I never heard of strangers getting in a tuner car just because it looked cool. Gary

  13. In my VERY (not even old enough to drink days) I picked up my first "real" car. A 1966 GTO. Bought it out of an add in the thrifty nickel in Wichita Falls TX for $500. No motor, no trans. I went up to Sanger and layed hands on a 455 Pontiac and a Rock crusher Muncie. Drove the car all the time (only car I had at the time in fact) and the Dairy Queen was doing a regular cruise night every Saturday. One particular Saturday me and 5 of my closest buddies loaded up and went down there. I had JUST had it painted the week before. I go in and order my ice cream and get registered and whatnot and come out to some random older fucker sitting in the driver seat smoking a cigar. I asked him what the fuck he was doing in my car and he doesn't say anything. So I open the door, pull him out and he didn't get his feet under him and fell down. About this time 2 or 3 of my buddies cone running over, but they didn't get to me before I started kicking the SOB in the teeth. They pulled me off of him and tell me we need to go, now. So we left. Sunday morning the MPs come knock on my door. Turns the older fucker was the base commander. I lost a stripe that day, and had 12hr duty days for 6 months, restricted to base, 7 days a week and a $200 reduction in pay for the same period. Fast forward about 10 years and I had just finished my 68 F100. Go to another DQ cruise night but this time (long out of the military) in Amarillo TX. Same deal, but this time my at the time girlfriend was the only one with me. I go talk to a buddy of mine that had a 70 Mustang and we were gone about a half hour. I had learned my lesson by going to bike shows and with my 70 C10, and a few others not to stay away from my car long. I come back to some guy loading his kids in the bed of my truck. I ask him what the hel he's doing, and he says he wants a family photo. I tell him then he needs to find another truck to take it on. He starts to say something and I knock him right in the cock sucker. Busted lip, holding teeth in his hands, bleeding pretty good, the whole 9. I pick his kids out of my truck by their shirt collars, and we drive off (before the cops get there). To this day I still go to Braum's for ice cream. Even if they can never seem to get my milkshake right.

Now one might think this comes from the time of making a living doing body and paint but... my wife who’s isn’t all that bad but umpteen years later I still feel she like most people I encounter think I’m a crazy person when I say “never touch the paint”, I don’t care if it old!” This goes for the daily or any car and bike.
I also am beginning to feel helpless with my five year olds with this even though I’m been teaching this to them for a few years if not all five. I constantly express this to them in parking lots. And I realize as I hopelessly repeat myself that I feel like anyone who overhears me thinks I’m a crazy person. Why? Because of threads like this my faith in man kind is constantly being adjusted from how I was naively raised.
It seems either people have no knowledge that paint is in fact not like very hard stainless steel or bullet proof glass.
Alas I did not acquire this “crazy” from being a painter or into cars. It comes from my upbringing, “Don’t touch other people’s shit, are you stupid?” I can still hear me or my friends Fathers say very clearly.

  19. How about putting a sign on the inside over the gas cap, saying something like "Fuck off lard arse".
You might need to stand nearby in case the poor little dear gets offended and starts to cry...

  20. WOW! I'm completely blown away by these stories. It was drilled into our heads as kids to never touch other people's stuff. Not sure what I'd do if confronted by some of this stupidity. The only one I can remember is at a local cruise night in Omaha...guy comes cruising in with a freshly painted red GTO and goes into the bar for a barley pop. When he comes back out, some guy is leaning up against the GTO shooting the shit with his buddy. The car's owner asks the leaner if that's his GTO?
"No" says the leaner, who's wearing jeans with copper rivets.
Mister GTO says "Then you better get the fuck away from it because it's my car."
Even after it was 'splained to the leaner about the new paint, the rivet's in his jeans etc, he was all butt hurt about being called on screwing the guys new paint up. I really thought GTO guy was gonna pound the leaner.

Went to an indoor show years ago with a buddy and his dumbass bitch queen girlfriend. After telling her 3 times to stop touching the cars, leaning on the cars, opening the doors, etc., and her ignoring me, and my buddy doing nothing, I walked over to the biggest, meanest, dumbest looking SOB standing by his car, and told him she was rubbing all over it, and fucked it up a little.
I walked away as the big guy was grabbing both of her arms, and picking her up off of the floor. Walked by my buddy, who was just standing there with his mouth hanging open, told him he should have fixed the problem, and left. Luckily, we were in my car, so I just left. I figured getting a ride for the 20 mile trip home was the least of their problems.
One of my proudest moments in life.

  23. Yes! But the only good thing as I get older I can afford better lawyers and get sprung a lot quicker. But never get arrested on a Friday or Saturday night, makes for a long weekend until you go to court.

Happened to us in Florida while at Disney with a rental mini-van. Came back to the parking lot and there were 4 of the same colour all within 2-3 cars of each other. Hit the remote and the one closest unlocked - got in only to find out it was any of our stuff in it. What are the odds!!!!

  26. I went to a show once, backed in my "60 Caddy, an older bloke walks up and grabs the top of the fin, and starts pulling and pushing it so hard that the back of the car was rocking side to side! He's saying the usual "see !they don't make them this strong anymore!" bullshit. I politely told him to get his fuckin' hands off my car. He just looked at me with a big fat stupid face. If he wasn't 80 years old, I would have liked to kick him up the jaxy and send him skyward!

"Can you please not lean on the car?" (a fresh restored 33 Packard Victoria). "What, this thing?" "No, the one across the aisle. YES that thing, was just finished 2 days ago so, please..." He takes his hand off the sidemount then leans on the fuckin door, and his watchband was on the paint. "So now you want to cause hundreds in paint damage? What the fuck over?" "My $3,000 dollar watch only causes hundreds..." laughing at me. "You're a few seconds from personal disaster pal, I'm not gonna say it again." and I must have had what my wife calls the grey face going. She says it scares people, I'm just deeply pissed off. He finally gets it, resumes a polite and professional discussion, I end up woodgraining his 41 Clipper parts. Later two lardass-sportcoat-cigar fucks walk up, open the door, start going through my friend's show registration. "Hey, you know the owner?" "Yeah." "Who is she?" (not a she of course). "Why, whats the problem?" "What the fuck fellas, ya think this is fuckin carnival ride? Put the papers down and tell your story walkin!" They walk away quickly, mumbling like I was the one with the problem. Where was this? FUCKIN HERSHEY! That was a weird year since in all my years there, prior and since, I've NEVER seen such disrespect for the cars there. Thousands of car folk, the majority great people and always respectful of "heavy" cars like that, but that year I coulda been hauled to jail for what I really wanted to do. I know, worthless without pics...

The common post on this thread is about the lack of respect/courtesy/manners/etc. I'm an "Old Timer" now and have noticed the big change through the years and do not have the answers other than keep an eye on your stuff. I was raised and my children were taught about courtesy/respect/manners/etc. and I notice my grandchildren are good to go also. On the subject of kids and car shows, I try to be nice when a kid is interested and calmly explain no touch rule, offer to let them sit in it, Mom or Dad takes a pic and maybe a new Hot Rodder is born, flip side is when parent bitches me out for telling his kid about the no touch rule, its only a car. I have seen some heated discussions over this subject.( I walk away before getting myself in trouble) I still enjoy the cruise's, shows, the hobby and refuse to let the minority of rude obnoxious people turn me away, that would be punishing me for their shortcomings.
