Put the 29 shell on the car and got my measurements where the hood will sit with the 2” channel.
    Got some cutting to do

Got it sitting just right. 4-1/2” later ... thanks guys.
Long slow day but it was worth it.

  3. Is that a 30-31 sunvisor ? If what mods did you have to do ? I like the way they blend into top instead of the drop . Blue

Yes it is. I like the look of them also. I turned it up just a touch and the only thing I had to do was flatten the 90's on each end to straighten out to mount on the side of the A pillar like the 28/29. That's it then Trimmed the ends to fit the pillar.
51box did that on his 28 coupe. Really liked the look of it over the 28/29 visor

Couple of small swaps in March and Fitchburg in April..................... just sayin'
Look at Ben's thread- I think he had to make his hood longer too.

I my be sending you an envelope of money to do some shopping for me. Depending on how my Daughter does this show season.
Last year it coincided with Fitchburg. I'll look online and get the dates.
I believe Ben had to add 2" to his hood. That's about where I'm at. Slightly less.

I'll be on the lookout for a hood for sure. I'm not messing with the hood I have...my time is better spent elsewhere.
It would make a damn nice sled though. Haha.

    Mike,
I just found this thread and started reading a few pages back. I’ll need to find the time to start at the beginning as Your work and vision are excellent. Really capturing the details of a traditional East Coast rod. When you redid the steering box mount I thought of the Golden Rod. A mid 50’s hot rod from NJ. And then you added the front fenders. Here are a couple shots I took of it last time I saw it...[IMG][IMG]

Keep up the good work. I’m subscribed and coming along for the ride.

Woah that roadster is amazing. I'm going to have to look for more images of it.
Reading so many 1950's little pages I've come across I really enjoy the uniqueness of the east coast cars of that era.
I want to build my car reminiscent of that time and a car you may have seen in the pits at a race or event.
I've got spare tire ring fenders for the rear too if I don't like the look of the cycle fenders.
Thought of bobbing a set of rears also.
    We shall see.
    Maybe some nerfbars too.
Thank you for posting the pics and the kind words.

Welcome aboard ! I've got a ways to go.

I also like the East Coast style. Here are a few more pictures. Also the car was featured in the Feb. 56 Rodding and Restyling. A great magazine to reference when looking for East Coast style[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I found out today thanks to IG that my seats are from a 1970’s Dodge van. Kinda random but the look and fit are perfect.
Also I was watching American Pickers and wouldn’t ya know they were looking at a
1946 Gar Wood Ensign wooden boat and there was my steering wheel !!
The exact wheel ...I was shocked !

So Van seats and a Boat steering wheel ... HOT RODDING at its finest !

Need? NO! But when does that ever stop any of us?!?!?!?:cool::cool:

I love seeing your updates. They always get me wanting to be back in the shop working on my car (and the Holidays and snow always throw me off track for a while so that's really important right now).

  21. I've said it before and I'll say it again, You guys up north do some great work. I enjoy following along, your project is just the right amount of detail and skill. Don't get me wrong, I like checking out Flop's threads but your work is more along the level that I can relate to. Thanks for all the updates.

    Tonight’s progress ... kicked my a$$
Never did I imaging it would take that long to do this piece of floor ... but it did.
16gauge Metal. Hope with my floor structure it will suffice.
Feels pretty rigid. Need to roll some beads in it. (I’m going to practice before I do.) but it’s a start.

So true. I just redid the mount on mine and cut down the grill because it was too high. I couldn't get the sides to line up correctly. Also I did mine the first time with the sides for the hood attached which was a big mistake. This time around I removed them to square up the top hood and grill.

Thank you so much, I'm chugging along ! Did some research today and found a 3" chopped 32 radiator fits exactly what I have for height on my grill. So that will be here hopefully next week.
It feels good to be moving forward on it.

It sat idle for a bit. I wasn't too happy with myself, but life happens.

    Tonight’s project.
    Transmission -Teardrop thing.
With the 2” channel I didn’t really need a tunnel but I wanted to get the floor sitting closer to the shifter mount for installation of my shifter boot.
Cool NOS Fenton piece I found online.
Made a wire template to start. After I templated a piece for the floor.
Covered it in painters tape to get my template.
I don’t have a planishing hammer, English wheel or slip roll. So I had to get creative with my break and an empty gas bottle.
I was able to get the basic shape after some effort.
I don’t have a tipping die for my bead roller so I got creative again with my vise to flange the edges of the “thing” I was building.
I’m sure there will be some tweaking once I get the floor built, but this is what I’ve got.

I officially got Old today. Had to go get my eyes checked and boom Glasses.
