At first I was going to build a mild Kustom out of her 49 Buick . A Larry Watson inspired car . But lately I’ve been kinda seeing a lot of people going that route so I’m going to go in a different direction.
I know most people will not get this build and think I’m ruining a perfectly good car , but I like building different things , and I’ve always loved early Gm concept cars .the Buick YJob for example . so why not build a Kustom version of it out of my wife’s Buick. I’m running a Buick 401 nailhead that I swapped Curt Iseli for and he got the running original straight 8 out of the car, 4l60e trans , Camaro front clip , the car will be on air . And have some pretty neat stuff on it when it’s done . So stay tuned

Cool! I had to Google images of the Y job but now that I’ve seen it I can’t wait to see your project finished.

Maybe I’m missing something but why are you calling it the “E” job?

Camaro front clip fitting like a glove . With going this route it gave me a 3" z'ed kick up just by installing it . Also the steering box is in the same spot as the original setup was . FFA5C3DC-2EB7-4345-B12C-374782BFE53C.jpeg 3E422142-6017-4FA8-A489-7F6DD8233943.jpeg

I'm on board for the ride and can't wait to see progress. Looks to be a cherry Buick to begin with.
Damn, I'd love to be that talented; what do you do now for headlamps?

  9. I really like the way your going with this build. The Y job is one of my top Buick’s list the wildcat is right there with it.

  15. Wooo Hooo, another CW thread! Please don't forget to show us mere mortals a few "how to" details as you go. I've been hooked since you started building the '59 when you were "just a kid"!
Thanks for taking us all along!

If you want cheap disk brakes and 5 on 5 bolt pattern, use 80's full size Cad spindles and rotors, calipers etc. Up to 84 works. I did that on my 49 in my avatar with a 79 Trans Am front clip, which should be the same as yours. Fits like stock, I used everything up to the TA ball joints.

There will be a lot of good stuff with this one , I just wish I could find more time to work on it .

  23. Looks like a beautiful start! Are you planning on running similar trim like the Y Job had running down each side?

I don’t think I am . As much as I like it I also love the looks of the stock side trim from 49 so we’ll see .

How about multiple lines of the stock trim? Maybe three sets on the side, to echo the Y Job styling? Too much?

0297D408-5584-4964-88D3-4711E7CB5CF4.jpeg Funny. A mate just tipped me off to your thread. Just this morning I dug out this old photoshop of my 39 and looked long and hard at the y job and Cord inspired headlight delete. I might have to watch to see what you do.
