    This one is to launch gliders up in the air.
    On a trip with the Dutch Corvair Club in 2016 we visited an airfield where they used a similar (but more modern) stationary engine to launch gliders.

    i've owned several tow trucks, and i cant imagine a winch running fast enough to launch a plane! that baby must be spinnin!

    Seattle Van de Kamp's Bakery. This one is way before my time but I do recall the Van de Kamp's metal signs. Bartell Drugs in the background another Seattle mainstay.

    Re the post on page 5016 by Johnny99, I am sure that the pic is Jimmy Duranty. This was a movie that I remember seeing in the 1960's. Cant remember the title of the movie. Don't know why I would have remembered it, can barley remember what I had for breakfast!!!!!

    Early Seattle Movie Theatres. Mostly gone now. The lovely Mrs. 99 and I saw quite a few art house type movies [no not those kind!] in our younger days at some of these old theatres, great way to see a show. Local computer guy Paul Allen purchased and renovated the Cinerama with its large curved screen. Kudos to him!
