My guess would be a marine engine. I have never seen a factory or aftermarket cover like that. They look low profile so roller rockers probably will not clear them.

The bulk-shape is factory style, but the ribs/fins are not.

Was the 351C-400M used in marine applications? I am not big into things that can easily sink.

I doubt very much if they are Boss 351, in fact I am sure they are not. Early Boss cars had stamped valve cover, in ‘70 they went to an aluminum “pentroof” kind of design.
For something really different Ford offered this from their Motorsport division:

They are a stud girtel and valve cover in one. The long studs replace the rocker studs and continue to act as a support for the girtel. I have had these for many years and may use them on my Boss 302.

Boss 351 covers were aluminum and don't look anything at all like those covers. Boss 302 uses the same ones as the Boss 351.
Those are still good looking rocker covers. I would strip and repaint them ford blue.

As stated not a Ford OEM Boss cover , they must be boat stuff , I have tinkered with many Boss engines through out time and never seen these before on the road

Just a guess. Have I seen them on Big 'Birds with a "Thunderbird" decal on the flat area?

This is my 351c engine waiting to go into my 35 Ford when I finish a few other projects. Pretty tall valve cover on the bottom side.

The 69 Boss 302 had stamped chrome covers. Ford switched to the cast covers for the 1970 my, although some late production 69 cars are alleged to have the cast version.

Crusader Marine (or something like that) converted Ford engines to marine use back then, so that’s another possibility for the source of the covers in question.

I have searched the internet, Ford,Mercury, marine and after market. I am unable to identify them.
    They are just different.
